Dear Philip,

Thank you so much for your work on organizing Wiki Loves Earth photo contest this year!

Despite the pandemic, we have got more than 106k photos of nature monuments from 34 countries all over the world. These photos raise awareness on protected areas and help to illustrate Wikipedia (23% of these pictures are used in wiki projects), we are grateful to everyone for making this impact happen. The international winners will be announced soon, stay tuned!

To improve future WLE editions, we will appreciate your feedback on organizing the contest. Also, we would like to send you some WLE-branded souvenirs as a present for your work. Please write your thoughts and suggestions on organizing WLE, as well as your postal address in this form — https://forms.gle/C1RDvkhZMuBzknCC7.

Stay safe!

Hi Anastasiia,

yes, we have the contacts of the nominated photographers and checked the relevancy - with national parks it's always a bit murky as to what is relevant and what isn't.

Unfortunately no interesting stories come to mind, since this was rather a low-key contest judging by the submissions.

Best,
Philip

Dear Philip,

Thank you so much for your work on organizing Wiki Loves Earth photo contest in Austria and submitting the winners!

Could you please confirm that you have contacts of all authors of winning pictures and that you checked the photos for relevancy (i.e. whether they really illustrate a nature protected area) and copyright?

If you have an idea of some interesting WLE story you would like to share on our blog or social media pages (for example, some peculiarities of the contest in your country, a story behind the winning photo or an interview with a winner/a jury member), please let me know, we would be glad to publish it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks in advance for your answer!

Dear Philip,

Just a kind reminder that the deadline for submitting your winners is September 1st. You can either publish the winning photos on the winners page on Commons — https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2020/Winners or send them to the international team privately. Detailed instructions can be found here — https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2020/Organize#How_to_submit_local_winners.

Please, submit local winners on time to avoid disqualification of your country from the process of selecting international winners. If you need an extension, please contact us in advance.

Looking forward to your winning photos!

Dear Philip,

Wiki Loves Earth in Austria has finished. Thank you so much for your hard work in organizing the contest, we are excited about your results!

Please, follow this checklist of the next steps:

1. Finding jury and picking local winners
As always, the international team expects that local teams will submit up to 10 photos from their country for the international round. The deadline this year is September 1st. To pick them, you need to assemble a team of jury, which will grade the photos and select winners.

If you don't have your jury members yet, it's time you start looking for them, so there is enough time to grade the photos and submit the winners by the end of August. Please, find more information about this process in the article. If you need help in your jury search, please contact me. We have created a network of people willing to help local teams and can recommend you potential jury members for your contest.

Once the jury has selected winners, please make sure:
— You have double-checked that: 1) winning images are indeed picturing a nature protected area; 2) these pictures do not violate copyright (pay attention to the size and use TinEye, Google Images tools etc. for checking).
Of course, it wouldn't harm to check every contest image for relevancy and copyright before they get to the jury, but checking winners is a priority.
— You are in contact with all winners: they have activated their emails, or you have another way of reaching them (Facebook, some other messenger app etc.), so you will be able to provide their direct contacts if necessary

To make sure your participants have activated their emails on Commons, we can help you by sending out messages to all users that haven't done it yet. Please, let us know if you would like us to do. If so, please provide a translation to your language(s) for the message below:
Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Earth photo contest! The jury will soon start evaluating photos to select winnersPlease, activate your email in your account on Wikimedia Commons, so we can contact you in case your photo is selected as a winning one. To do it, go to [[Special:Preferences|your personal settings]] and activate the option "Allow other users to email me" on the bottom of the page. Thank you!

2. Submitting local winners to the international jury
You can find all the detailed instructions here. The deadline for submitting local winners is September 1st. Please, submit local winners on time to avoid disqualification of your country from the process of selecting international winners.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at wle-team@wikimedia.org.ua.

We are excited about WLE in Austria and looking forward to your winning photos!

Hi Anastasiia,

thanks for the information, but we've been running our own jury tool for more than 8 years now, so we won't need access to the WLX jury tool! :-)

Hi Anastasia!

Thank you for your email and sorry for the rather short notice! :-)
WLE will be part of WikiDaheim in Austria (which starts today), although we will cut short the results for WLE in order to submit 10 pictures by the end of August. The landing page therefore is a bit different than normal, although the old landing page also exists for 2020:

The banner/site notice will also be part of Wikidaheim, organised via this campaign: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CentralNotice/Request/WikiDaheim_2020

Hope this is ok for you :-)

Best,
Philip
