If so, then that news should be listed in the future changes, not in recent changes, allowing further discussions and tests/fixes.

Yes, the patch doesn't appear to have been deployed onto Wikimedia wikis yet, but it works quite well on a developer version of Translatewiki — take <http://dev.translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&group=core&filter=!translated&action=translate&language=jbo> as an example and try pressing Alt+1, Alt+2, etc. on various messages.

As far as shortcut conflicts are considered, I believe that's the reason behind the removal of Shift+Alt+1, etc. as requested on Translatewiki — but you'll have to talk to Niklas (who's also CC'd) to this list about that.
