Can anyone suggest a workaround?  A lot of people (including a couple of projects and a couple of bots) in EN wiki use my scripts and I don't want to put them on hold indefinitely.

I want to do big joins with tables in the enwiki_p database without causing replag on the new sql-s1 box.

as i mentioned in my mail, this could be caused by
innodb_locks_unsafe_for_binlog being disabled, which is needed to work around
this mysql bug:

(otherwise, certain queries crash the server.)

when that bug is fixed, we will
 change the configuration back.
