Hi all,

It's been a while since anything's been posted to this list, but I'd like to notify you of a new proposal for the "WebCite" tool becoming a sister project.

The proposal's at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WebCite, and there's also related discussion on the English Wikipedia Village pump and Maggie Dennis' talk page.

Essentially they're looking to fundraise $50,000 to keep the service running (we currently have ~182,000 links to their service on the English Wikipedia) and modernise it, or it will be shutting down towards the end of 2013.

The user has proposed that WebCite becomes a sister project under the Foundation's wing to "finance the necessary modernization of the service".

Now I'm not entirely sure what our stance is on this, but there's already some support on the proposal page in a couple of days, so I left a respond on Maggie's talk page saying I'd make the Committee aware of the proposal and asked a couple of questions with regards to whether WebCite is willing to become a sister project and what they'd do with $50,000.

Feel free to add your comments to the proposal's talk page or on this mailing list.
