The open access policy states that media files must be made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license (the version currently used by Wikipedia), or any other free license.

Researchers receiving funds from Wikimedia Foundation will provide “unrestricted access to and reuse of all their research output.” +creativecommons
