FYI, that Phabricator task was closed as "declined" in August.

I'll share this idea again, WMF needs our own URL shortener, would help with social messages like this.

Aye! For historical reference (and for your thoughts as you think about SM strategy) I'll bump a thread that Joe started a couple months ago to look into DYKs as a potential ongoing social source. You can also read the old thread in the archives (easier then trying to read through the quoted text which bounces all over the place...) starting at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/social-media/2015-August/003193.html .

I like the idea, in the spirit of socializing on wiki concepts within social I'm a fan of doing tweets like this and using the "DYK" or "Did you know" terminology/pattern at the start of the post. Looks like we have room to do either version at the front of this (though I haven't actually checked that yet).
context, if you haven't seen it before which I imagine you have, is the front page of English Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page has cycling content under the header of "Did you know". It's content that is cycled every 8 hours and presents new or newly updated articles on the project nominated by the community members.

With new hit TV show bringing The Muppets new love, how about this bit of trivia?
The old guys in the balcony on @TheMuppets are named Statler and Waldorf after famous NYC hotels. http://buff.ly/1iMgiKl
