Hi all
I was asked by my chapter to promote Wikimedia Poland using Diaspora
network. Apparently it is quite popular among people related to open
education in Poland and it might be a good idea to try to reach to them
using this site.
I'm not very familiar with Diaspora so I would really appreciate some
advice on that. Does anyone here have any experience with using this
network to promote Wikimedia projects? Did you find it useful or not
really? Are there any tips or/and stories you would like to share?

Hi all,
After some discussion on phabricator
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T91633>, it was decided to create
http://www.whatcanidoforwikimedia.org/ to help promote public contribution
to the Wikimedia projects.
Obviously, a project such as this needs as much publicity as possible to
get the ball rolling. Would it be possible to have a mention on the
Wikimedia social media outlets?

This would have been better for me to find yesterday (it was the Monday
media of the day on commons) but
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Private_Life_of_a_Cat.ogv is oddly
addictive and (less oddly) adorable :). It's a 20 minute public domain
video following a cat having and bringing up her new kittens that was
uploaded a couple days ago (transferred from the Internet Archive). Given
the relatively universal love of cat videos online I always think some
new/fitting ones work well and it's been a while since we posted one.
I'm far to tired so not doing great thinking up SM messages atm but thought
I'd post this now in case those awake before me have a fresher mind and if
not I'll chime in when I get up/into office :). Would be awesome if we
could uploaded it natively I imagine, we can get an already converted mp4

Hello everyone,
It is Guy Fawkes' Night (in the UK at least) and here is some proposed
social media.
I figure we can bank on the holiday and the popularity of V for Vendetta.
Included the Guy Fawkes Night article and–what I think is more
interesting–the Guy Fawkes mask article, describing the cultural
significance of the GF mask in contemporary anti-establishment protests.
t/f: Remember, remember the Fifth of November...
Guy Fawkes Night, a night of bonfires, fireworks–and often protest:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night
F: Since the release in 2006 of the film V for Vendetta, the use of
stylized "Guy Fawkes" masks, with moustache and pointed beard, has become
widespread internationally among groups protesting against politicians,
banks and financial institutions. The masks both conceal the identity and
protect the face of individuals and demonstrate their commitment to a
shared cause.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_mask
F: After appearing in Internet forums, the mask became a well-known symbol
for the online hacktivist group Anonymous, used in Project Chanology, the
Occupy movement, and other anti-government and anti-establishment protests
around the world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_mask

Hi Jeff (switching topic back to the thread about TAFI),
Coin945 (who posted these suggestions) is now subscribed to this list

simply that the drafts had been copied over from Wikipedia to Meta

Born on this day in 1929 in Bengaluru, India, Shakuntala Devi, known as the
"human computer." In 1980, she correctly multiplied two 13-digit numbers in
only 28 seconds. She also wrote what is considered the first study of
homosexuality in India, a compassionate book now considered pioneering.

Adventurer Sarah Outen has just completed a round-the-world rip under
her own power.
She recorded her voice for Wikipedia and I've tweeted about this:

Team @BBCNews mispronounce @sarahouten's name. If only
they'd listened to her Wikipedia voice recording: http://bit.ly/1Wtx7ft

Starting a new thread since the old one was getting long for retweets that
people find wandering the SM web :).

Good actual post from Gizmodo which highlights the community call for more
help as well as our blog post. Would be nice to retweet from @WP I think.
