As already reported and discussed in the maillist at
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/pywikipedia-l/2011-July/006885.htmlhttp://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/pywikipedia-l/2011-August/006919.html
I think i would be a good thing to work out where and when 'site.getToken'
is called and why this sometimes fails...
Thanks and Greetings

Since this is solely for reading local xml files must be, somehow, separated

Subject: pywikipediabot should use standard output
Original description:
All pywikipedia messages go to standard error, making the proper running of
such bots from cron very difficult. Normal messages should go to standard
output, and only suprising messages \(python errors, block notifications, new
message notifcations\) should go to standard error.

Example use:
I added this while trying to clean-up a Wikia wiki. Wikia's RTE leaves
\[\[File:Placeholder on pages often. With this addition, the bot can use
-only:"\[\[File:Placeholder" -except:"\{\{image\}\}" -text:"\{\{image\}\}" -up

already have the \{\{image\}\} tag.

Original description:
From
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/pywikipedia-l/2012-October/007585.html :
I just wanted to put\(\) a simple page on a MediaWiki 1.16
instance, where I have to use screen scraping \(use\_api=False\).
There is something strange however:
There is an API call invoked by \_getBlocked:
/w/api.php?action=query&format=json&meta=userinfo&uiprop=blockinfo
Here's my backtrace:
File "pywikipedia/wikipedia.py", line 693, in get
expandtemplates = expandtemplates\)
File "pywikipedia/wikipedia.py", line 743, in \_getEditPage
return self.\_getEditPageOld\(get\_redirect, throttle, sysop, oldid,
change\_edit\_time\)
File "pywikipedia/wikipedia.py", line 854, in \_getEditPageOld
text = self.site\(\).getUrl\(path, sysop = sysop\)
File "pywikipedia/wikipedia.py", line 5881, in getUrl
self.\_getUserDataOld\(text, sysop = sysop\)
File "pywikipedia/wikipedia.py", line 6016, in \_getUserDataOld
blocked = self.\_getBlock\(sysop = sysop\)
File "pywikipedia/wikipedia.py", line 5424, in \_getBlock
data = query.GetData\(params, self\)
File "pywikipedia/query.py", line 146, in GetData
jsontext = site.getUrl\( path, retry=True, sysop=sysop, data=data\)
getUrl\(\), which is also called from API, seems always
to call \_getUserDataOld\(text\) where text is ... API output
so it tries to do strange things on that and gives warnings
like
Note: this language does not allow global bots.
WARNING: Token not found on wikipedia:pl. You will not be able to edit any
page.
which is nonsense since the analyzed text is not HTML - only API output.
If getUrl\(\) is supposed to be a low-level call, why call \_getUserDataOld\(\)
there?
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/pywikipedia/7461
has introduced this call there.
It's easily reproducable by this:
import wikipedia
import config
config.use\_api = False
wikipedia.verbose = True
s = wikipedia.getSite\("pl", "wikipedia"\)
p = wikipedia.Page\(s, u"User:Saper"\)
c = p.get\(\)
c += "<\!-- test -->"
p.put\(c, u"Testing wiki", botflag=False\)
//Saper

Assigned to: xqt
Original description:
This is a followup to \[pywikipediabot-Bugs-1969051\] \"weblinkchecker should
ignore URLs inside some tags\"
The fix in pyrev:8076 by xqt is appreciated, but not an appropriate solution.
The particular tag I listed in the ticket, \"<sql>\", was just an
example. The fix by xqt simply hard-coded this example \(bogus\) tag into the
Pywikipedia source code:
svn diff -c8076 http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/pywikipedia/trunk/pywikipedia
A better fix would be to recognize when you are reading a tag attribute:
<AnyTagGoesHere ... attr=\'http://whatever\' ...>
\{\{AnyTemplateOrParserFunction | attr=http://whatever
and ignore the URL in these situations.

This is a tracking bug for issues that need some thought in terms of API design
- e.g. discrepancies between compat and core, problems with the current
interface or new features for which it is not yet clear how they can be clearly

RecentChangesPageGenerator takes a few arguments like showMinor, showAnon, ...
that are supposed to be boolean. However, they all have a default value of
None, but the documentation only covers the case where they're either True or
False. (The same is true for the recentchanges method in site.py that the
generator uses.)

English speaking at end
==Francais== Texte d'origine
Bonjour
Je voudrais vous proposer un système qui permet de rendre le robot multilingue.
En effet, tous les messages envoyé à la console sont anglophone. Or le but d'un
bien entendu
Exemple :
dans user-config.py, j'ai "mylang = 'fr'"
Replace.py à la ligne 375 contient la commande "wikipedia.input\(u'Please enter
the new text:'\)",
Le nouveau système coderait "wikipedia.input\(u'Please enter the new text:'\)"
par "wikipedia.input.message\(284\)"
appelerait donc lang/fr.py et lui demanderais de lui retourner le message n°
284 qui serait "s'il vous plais, entrez le nouveaux texte :" et le lui
retourne.
Voila, en esperant avoir compris ma demande.
Je vous remercie de votre écoute
==English== Text translates since French by a machine translation system
Hello
I would like to propose you a system which allows to return the multilingual
robot. Indeed, all the messages messenger in the console are English-speaking.
Now the purpose of a robot is to adapt itself to the multitude of the languages
which can exist on behalf of the users. It is for it that I propose you the
following system:
Creation of a new directory ' lang '. In this directory would be files of type
XX.py \(XX there being the code ISO 639 of the language\). Thus this directory
will contain 1 file by existing code of language.
When the various programs want to post a message on the console, the order used
is very often ' wikipedia.output ' or ' wikipedia.input '. The work of this
order would be to call the xx.py file with the number of the message to be sent
back in parameter, the choice of the xx would be given by the mylang variable
to user-config.py
The xx.py file would send then the message to be posted\(shown\) by taking into
account various variables of type %s \(or other\) naturally
Example:
In user-config.py, I have " mylang = ' fr ' "
Replace.py in the line 375 contains the command " wikipedia.input \(u' Please
enter the new text: '\) ",
The new system would code " wikipedia.input \(u' Please enter the new text: '\)
"by" wikipedia.input.message \(284\) " call thus lang/fr.py and would ask it to
return it the message n° 284 which would be " s'il vous plais, entrez le
nouveaux texte : ".
Here we are, by hoping to have understood my demand.
I thank you for your listening

Subject: featured.py to handle featured files & assessments template
Original description:
I am working on Commons:Template:Assessments which reports "featured" status
files on commons. There is a synchronization problem with local wikis and
commons.
For instance if a file is a Featured Picture on English Wikipedia, Assessments
template would have the parameter |enwiki=1 and optionally |enwiki-nom= to link
to the nomination page. If a file is a formerly featured picture the parameter
would be |enwiki=2. If the file is a featured sound the parameter would be
|enwiki=3 and if the file is a formerly featured sound the parameter would be
|enwiki=4. Updating the commons page is sufficient to update all wikis since
the starts are visible on all wikis.
Though it is also possible to run the code in an interwiki.py-like manner as
well as featured pictures are typically not interwiki linked.

When moving category using "python category.py move -from:XX -to:YY", it does
not work properly.
It adds categories from transcluded templates.
For example,
[https://ko.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%EC%96%91%ED%8F%89_%EC%9A%A9%EB%…
This edit] adds "[[분류:경기도에 관한 토막글]]"(means"Category:Gyeonngi-do stubs"). This
category comes from the transcluded template "{{토막글|경기도}}".
The function "page.categories()" of pywikibot-core differs from
pywikibot-compat's.
The "category.py" in pywikibot-compat works well.

Please, review carefully my code - to be honest I don't have really much
experience with Python.
And few moments:
1\) When we adding/fixing interwikis on subpage, I think we should remove
interwikis in template itself if any
2\) It seems that logic of determing whether this page has subpages, getting
interwikis also from included subpages etc should be decoupled from
interwiki.py and moved to wikipedia.py
3\) Not really related but.. cosmetic\_changes.py removes interwikis from
subpage.

Wikidata: The attached patch allows to add additional values even if the claim

Before, editClaim either adds the claim and the value if the item does not
contain the claim yet or changes the value of the claim. Sometimes, however,
additional values are needed.
This is enabled with the force_add parameter which is False per default and
thus, the prior behavior of the method is unchanged if not otherwise specified.

category.py move -from:"Anni de el VIII secoło a.C." -to:"Ani de el VIII secoło

The result is:
Getting \[\[Categoria:Anni de el VIII secolo a.C.\]\]
Getting \[\[Categoria:Anni de el VIII secolo a.C.\]\]
with simple "l" instead of "ł" \(and btw I am wondering about the two gettings
while that category does not exist\)
decoding these categories works as follows:
category.py move -from:"Anni\_de\_el\_VIII\_seco%C5%82o\_a.C."
-to:"Anni\_de\_el\_VIII\_seco%C5%82o\_a.C." -lang:vec
This bug is also valid for rewrite branch but there is no output.

This bug is to track features that are now in specific scripts, but that should
be moved to the framework.
Some examples:
- functions in scripts that could be used more broadly (e.g. functions that
work on page text could be moved to textlib)
- parts of scripts that call the API, or some other low-level layer, directly

Currently used code in Archivebot:
qg = pywikibot.data.api.QueryGenerator(

It would be a lot easier if I had a log of these pages and user can post it on

-interwiki links to articles at the Wikipedia article

Not clear how to deal with this. We don't want bots constantly changing the

Below is the code snippet that demonstrates the bug:
\#\!/usr/bin/python
\# -\*- coding: utf-8 -\*-
import wikipedia as pywikibot
site = pywikibot.getSite\(\)
page = pywikibot.Page\(site, "Template:001"\) \# or some other page, the page
itself is irrelevant here
pageText = u"\{\{monster | \{\{\{1\}\}\} | id=001\}\}"
print\(page.templatesWithParams\(pageText\)\)
I found that the output is
\[\(u'1', \[\]\)\]
instead of expected value
\[\(u'Monster', \[u' \{\{\{1\}\}\}', u' id=001'\]\)\]
However, if I change pageText to
pageText = u"\{\{monster | abc | id=001\}\}"
Then the output would be
\[\(u'Monster', \[u' abc ', u' id=001'\]\)\]
Which is correct.

I'm packaging pywikibot for Arch Linux here:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/python2-pywikibot-git/
Packing software for distribution means that install scripts might be run by a
different person than the user. Install scripts are not the place for user
config, and it's also bad practice to force ANY interactive configs at that
stage.
Please don't run generate_user_files.py from setup.py. Find some way to do this
at runtime.
Or, ideally, to behave sanely with no configs at all.
At the moment we are just providing a sample config for users to edit, and
doing: sed -i /generate_user_files.py/Id setup.py

The change "Rm change_category func from category_redirect.py" with change-id
493ea09c0f8ac31ba8453b785310e75848fc4ba4 from
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/104330/ broke the functionality that counts
the number of pages moved to target categories and reports the results on the
bot's "category redirect log" page. See
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:RussBot/category_redirect_log; before this
change, the log reported (for example) "Category:Irish surnames: 1 found, 1
moved", but after the change all reports are like "Category:United States
History: 7 found, 0 moved". In fact, the pages are being moved, it is just the
log report that is incorrect.

The PreloadingItemGenerator does what the name suggests: Preload Wikidata items
so that these can be processed quickly.
When it encounters an item that has been deleted it crashes with a
"pywikibot.exceptions.NoPage: Page [[wikidata:-1]] doesn't exist." exception.
It shouldn't crash. It should either:
* Not preload the item and pass the empty item (and let downstream check)
* Skip the item
Probably best to have the same behavior as with the PreloadingPageGenerator (or
does that one crash too?)

The grid engine on tool labs has another default locale setting than the
console.
Grid engine:
>>> import locale
>>> print locale.localeconv()
{'mon_decimal_point': '', 'int_frac_digits': 127, 'p_sep_by_space': 127,
'frac_digits': 127, 'thousands_sep': '', 'n_sign_posn': 127, 'decimal_point':
'.', 'int_curr_symbol': '', 'n_cs_precedes': 127, 'p_sign_posn': 127,
'mon_thousands_sep': '', 'negative_sign': '', 'currency_symbol': '',
'n_sep_by_space': 127, 'mon_grouping': [], 'p_cs_precedes': 127,
'positive_sign': '', 'grouping': []}
>>> print locale.getdefaultlocale()
(None, None)
>>> print locale.getlocale()
(None, None)
>>> print locale.getpreferredencoding()
ANSI_X3.4-1968
Console:
>>> import locale
>>> print locale.localeconv()
{'mon_decimal_point': '', 'int_frac_digits': 127, 'p_sep_by_space': 127,
'frac_digits': 127, 'thousands_sep': '', 'n_sign_posn': 127, 'decimal_point':
'.', 'int_curr_symbol': '', 'n_cs_precedes': 127, 'p_sign_posn': 127,
'mon_thousands_sep': '', 'negative_sign': '', 'currency_symbol': '',
'n_sep_by_space': 127, 'mon_grouping': [], 'p_cs_precedes': 127,
'positive_sign': '', 'grouping': []}
>>> print locale.getdefaultlocale()
('en_US', 'UTF-8')
>>> print locale.getlocale()
(None, None)
>>> print locale.getpreferredencoding()
UTF-8
The one from console works with pywikibot, the other one not, see Bug 58181.
Essentially the issue is that the locale on the grid engine is not set
properly. But it is not important where this error comes from, the bots must
not crash in such situations.
I propose to check 'locale.getdefaultlocale()' on startup and compare it to
'config.textfile_encoding' (may be also 'config.console_encoding') IFF they
mismatch, the encoding has to be set according to config in order to use the
correct one.

> choix du xx serait donnée par la variable mylang de user-config.py.
> le fichier xx.py enverrais alors le message à afficher en tenant

> Exemple : dans user-config.py, j'ai "mylang = 'fr'" Replace.py à la
> ligne 375 contient la commande "wikipedia.input(u'Please enter the

> enter the new text:')" par "wikipedia.input.message(284)" appelerait

PyWikibot [1] is a Python-based framework to write bots for MediaWiki. There
are currently 2 versions of pywikibot currently used:
- version 1.0 (also known as pywikibot-compat) is the legacy version
- version 2.0 (also known as pywikibot-core) is a rewrite of the original
framework, focusing solely on MediaWiki wikis with an API (version 1.14 or
newer) and offering an improved internal architecture.
There are a number of scripts used by various robot operators that were used in
pywikibot-compat but have not yet been adapted to work with pywikibot-core. One
of those is nowcommons.py, which allows you to delete files that are also
present on Wikimedia Commons on a local wiki.
You can find information about how to convert the script on [2], [3]. Patches
can be submited through the gerrit uploader [4] (you need a MediaWiki.org
account). More documentation on gerrit can be found at [5].
