thank you for this quick response. Yes I use Pywikibot also for my sysop account which has 2FA enabled. Unfortunately a captcha response is required for login even a mail address is set. The same for my test account; I got verification codes last week but a captcha token is required since (I guess) today or the last few hours. I cannot believe that this is intentional to get always these captcha requests even there is an email available or 2FA is set (leading to a 3FA).

The easiest thing to do would be to use an OAuth 2 access token (or a bot password if the bot doesn't support OAuth).
Assuming this is pywikibot (which already handles EmailAuth challenges) you can also set an email address, so you get a verification email instead of a captcha (which for internal reasons has a somewhat client-unfriendly workflow).
