Hi everyone, 

Earlier this year, the Creative Commons Copyright Platform formed four working groups to undertake an exploration of policy issues affecting the open ecosystem, in line with the Creative Commons 2021-2026 strategy. These four working groups exist to address four policy themes, including 1) artificial intelligence and open content, 2) platform liability, 3) copyright exceptions and limitations, 4) the ethics of open sharing. You can learn more about each of these groups and their charges in this CC blog post.

We are writing to you today as representatives of Working Group 4 on the ethics of open sharing. We have been drafting a short white paper that outlines some of the most pertinent and pressing questions and use cases involving the ethics of open sharing, and we’d like to ask you and the members of your community to join us in an open consultation to review and provide comments and feedback on this document. 

The goal is to get wide-ranging input about these thorny but essential questions at the crossroads of ethics and open sharing. This paper will be published on Creative Commons’ Medium publication and outcomes will be shared in a public webinar hosted by CC on 9 November, 2021. Details on how to join the webinar will be shared soon, stay tuned! 

The consultation is open until Sunday, 24 October, 2021.
