Hi everyone,
This is your reminder that next Tuesday, 22 September, is the next Global
GLAM Call. These are monthly community calls with a collaborative agenda
that usually covers all kinds of culture and heritage related topics in the
WIkimedia movement. Every month, for more than 2 years, dozens of community
members have gathered online to exchange ideas and projects and discuss
different ongoing activities.
This month there is a very interesting agenda that will include a few
project updates as well as a cultural commons dialogue with partners such
as the Open Knowledge and Open Future!
Hope you will be able to join! Register here:

Dear All,
This year we are organizing the WikiIndaba Hackathon
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:WikiIndaba_conference_2026/Hackathon>,
a 2-days hackathon bringing together Wikimedia contributors, developers,
and community members in Africa to build tools that support the African
communities to work better, from MediaWiki extensions and gadgets to bots,
Wikidata tooling, and editor-facing utilities. We'd love to have you on
board as a remote mentor.
Here's why we're reaching out specifically to you: your experience building
and maintaining tools for the Wikimedia ecosystem is exactly the kind of
practical knowledge our participants will need and you’ve proven this in
the past in the context of our Wiki Mentor Africa hackathons. Your
perspective would make a real difference in what teams are able to ship.
What mentoring looks like
It's flexible and fully remote. Mentors typically:
-
Hold 2-3 office hours (30-60 min each) over the event, on a schedule
that works for you.
-
Answer participant questions in a dedicated chat channel, async
-
Optionally give a short kickoff talk or join the final judging
Total time commitment is roughly 3-6 hours online, spread across the
conference dates 13-15 November 2026.
What you get out of it
-
Direct exposure to 50+ motivated builders working on community tech
-
A shoutout on our website, social channels, and the event's final
showcase
-
First look at fresh tools and ideas emerging from the unanimously accepted
community tool requests
-
Our genuine gratitude plus any community support that applies
No prep required beyond showing up with your expertise. We'll handle
logistics, scheduling, and participant coordination.
If you're interested, just reply to this email. We are happy to answer any
questions, and we will be adding you to the mentors group on Telegram.
Thanks for considering it, and I hope you'll join us!

<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:WikiIndaba_conference_2026/Hackathon>,
Bien cordialement,
