== MediaViewer pilot ==
MediaViewer has been enabled Thursday last week on Czech, Estonian, Finnish, Hebrew, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Thai and Vietnamese Wikipedias. It has been enabled yesterday on Dutch and French Wikipedias.
For the whole release plan, see [1]. For survey results, see [2]
== Work done last week ==
More bugs that surfaced during the pilots have been fixed: behavior was incorrect when localStorage is disabled by the user [3], Media Viewer would eat clicks on PDF thumbnails [4], some non-CC images would get a CC icon [5], article scroll issue when entering and exiting Media Viewer fast in Chrome [6] and the wrong extension was shown for certain file types in the "use this file" menu [7].
In order to improve Media Viewer performance further, we've started caching API request responses [8] and preloading MediaViewer JS/CSS when the user hovers their cursor over thumbnails long enough [9].
Many improvements were made to the limn dashboards [10], and we now have one dashboard per pilot site [11][12][13][14][15]. We've also started tracking new metrics [16][17] but delays due to a migration on the EventLogging databases has prevented us from adding them to the limn dashboards.
We continued the discussions on how to remedy the Image Scaler issues during a meeting with Ops and Performance and came up with a list of tasks to improve the situation [18], which the Multimedia team will take on this cycle.
== Work planned for this week ==
We've just entered a new development 6-week cycle and Media Viewer focus has been reduced from 100% to 1/3, since we are now only providing launch/post-launch support and not developing new features. In addition to Media Viewer, we are now dedicating 1/3 of our time to UploadWizard. And 1/3 of our time to technical debt, with a strong focus on Image Scaler improvements, which has seen a recent outage related to GWToolset [19].
This week we intend to take on estimating the global effect of launching Media Viewer to all users on bigger wikis [20]. We will take a stab at cleaning up the gerrit backlog for UploadWizard [21]. We will start working on the first task to resolve the Image Scaler/GWToolset issue [22].
We will continue improvements to the Media Viewer limn dashboards [23][24][25][26]. And we will continue to fix bugs found during the Media Viewer pilots [27][28][29][30][31][32][33] and implement small feature improvements [34][35][36][37][38][39] based on survey feedback.
