The Android team[0] is excited to announce a _very_ new Wikipedia
Android app beta release, v2.1.131-beta-2015-09-28[1]. This revision
contains the following features and fixes[2]:

* Completely reworked Nearby screen! View the locations of nearby
Wikipedia articles overlaid onto an interactive map. Explore Wikipedia
articles near your current location, or pan & zoom the map to explore
articles in any other part of the world
* Significant improvements to the app appearance including the
navigation drawer, status bar, and search results
* Fix image sizing on high-resolution devices
* Fix possible crashes in saved pages and link previews

This is a milestone release warranting a minor version bump from 2.0 to
2.1: it is the first maps beta release as well as the first release to
shed support for legacy devices[3]. All forthcoming releases will only
be available on Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich MR1) and newer[4].

A special mention worth making is that the Android maps client code was
authored by Katie Filbert (aude)[5] back in May[6] and has received a
lot of help from many people to get released today. Way to go Katie!

You can help make it better too! Read our getting started guide[7]. We
can't wait for your contributions!
