Haven’t had time to respond earlier, but wanted to congratulate the team on a really awesome release!

I really love the Wikidata Description editing and can’t wait for it to ship on English after we are done evaluating it.

…And to build on Pine’s comment: It is obvious how much work has been put into the app over the past year. It’s great to hear how old users now come back to the app and find a reason to keep using it.

Thanks to the Android team for all their effort!

My apologies for this poor experience! The app language and search language are tied together currently but the issue is being tracked here:

That doesn't sound too handy for myself. I often change to a different language, many that I can't read at all. If the app's ui language were to follow me in that, I'd be rather unpleasantly surprised. Is there some form of confirmation or warning to the user (the first time this happens) ? A way to override or avoid possibly ?

Hi all,

We're excited to bring you an updated version of the Wikipedia Android app, rolling out now to the Google Play Store! [1]. Here are the highlights from this update (or browse the complete change history):

- Contribute to Wikipedia by editing title descriptions for articles that you browse! (Powered by Wikidata, and currently limited to Russian, Hebrew, and Catalan Wikipedia. More languages will follow, once we analyze engagement data with this initial group of communities. If you're interested, here is the original project outline, and the rollout announcement)

- Support for two-factor authentication when logging in.
- Improved multi-window support for Samsung devices and for Android Nougat.
- Improved network performance and offline support for cached page previews.
- Minor UI refinements to image gallery, link previews, and reading lists.
- Changing the wiki language now also changes the app UI language.
- Numerous bug and crash fixes.

Special thanks to the volunteer contributors who submitted patches for this release:

If you'd like to help improve the app yourself, take a look at our getting started guide. We're looking forward to your contributions!
