It's an interesting idea but I don't like the social model (this is
normal for me). I'd much rather be able to see comments from the
public with preference given to 'friends' a la Foursquare.

reading. I wonder if there is a way we could glean some of those comments to
see how people do respond to articles on their mobile devices. Might be a
useful feature to incorporate (and something along the lines of the article
feedback tool being tested in on en.wikipedia).
