Members of the readership team who are working on the Gather extension
kicked off sprint "Help!" [1] today after completing sprint "Greatest hits"
[2] with 17 story points out of the 30 we committed to. We had a few
disruptions, e.g. a reorg just happened :-)!, so we're not too concerned
about not meeting our target.
Sprint Greatest hits mostly saw us polishing existing features, discussing
some architecture changes and improving our infrastructure. Tangibly it
resulted in seeing our beta opt ins increase jump from 2K to 40K a day [3]
but we experienced a few hiccups! We are also now showing a create
collection button at the bottom of the collections page.
This sprint we've committed to 26 story points, a little less than the
normal 30, mostly in anticipation of disruption due to the Lyon hackathon.
We'll be exploring an auto-moderation system, more infrastructure changes,
and improving our onboarding workflow to try and minimise the amount of 1
item collections we are seeing.

Okay, we met. Action items from the meeting:
* Request a Phabricator project with "reading" in the name for tracking
needs across the board
* Have a follow-up meeting to go over the specific cards and determine:
** If it's api.php, services tier, or both
** Timeline
** General themes that can be extrapolated for longer term thinking (e.g.,
where we want to be in a year)
I'm going to follow up with the meeting attendees on the action items.

Hi, I see what Dan means about quick load times on the Android mobile app.
Cool.
When I navigate to articles, the app sometimes seems to open to a random
section of the freshly loaded articles. Any ideas about why this happens?
Thanks,
Pine
Hi,
Is Wikipedia Zero only for reading, or for editing, too?
I noticed this Twitter conversation today:
https://twitter.com/thornet/status/594837690778034176
It says that it's only for reading.
If it's true, is there a reason for this?
I don't know about images and videos, but I imagine that the costs for
editing traffic would be negligible to the carriers and it will create a
lot of, um, good karma for everybody.

Hi!
I've been feeling that the signal to noise ratio on #wikimedia-mobile since
the addition of wikibugs and our new apps engineers (more grrrit-wm spam)
is turning to be 0 (that is, no signal because of too much noise).
It is really difficult to talk about anything when somebody else is working
(and that is what we do, so...).
I would like to propose moving the machines to a different channel, maybe a
couple of them ( #wikimedia-mobile-web-bots & #wikimedia-mobile-apps-bots
for example ) so that they continue to be useful but in a different
channel, and so that we can read again the chats with just the
conversations.
What do you think?
Cheers.
