I'm just playing with mediawiki 1.4.5, downloaded archive of this list, checked faq, and didn't found answer to question: it is possible to setup wiki, so URL: mydomain.com/wiki/Some_article -> some_article.mydomain.com
I tried to hack that a bit, but I was unsuccesful. Tried change also case in db, setup apache to handle all those domains and so on, but I get only redirects...
Could anyone tell me if: 1. this is possible 2. how to do that :)

it is posible, you have a link in media wiki faq at mediawiki.ogr

Even if you could do that, why would you want to force your users to do a DNS lookup for every article?

I've been an administrator and user of several MediaWiki installations for over a year now, and have contributed to this list in the past.
Now, I have a comment about the user login interface: the MediaWiki does not use a very standardized method of doing new user registrations.
While the system might be elegant from an implementation point of view (that is arguable as well), it is definitely not the most intuitive or consistent way of presenting two different functions to the user at once. I don't think I've ever seen this kind of registration page/login page intertwined anywhere else, and users have mentioned this quirk to me in the past. New user registration functionality is usually quite seperated from existing user login.
The structure may reflect a lack of importance placed in registering a username for the wikispace. I don't know if this is true - I suppose it could be, and that's another discussion.
This is just a thought on a relatively minor issue that I wanted to share with the MediaWiki community, and I'd love to hear other perspectives on it.

Yes, is looks very confusing at first sight! maybe we could have the classic way : a userlogin page, with [[Sign in]] and [[Lost password]] links to specialpages dedicated to registration and passwd recovery?

Yes, it's a non-intuitive design. One has to guess at what was intended, and hope for the best. Surely, the two functions could have been implemented on two pages. Registration is not identical with login. In some cases, you might want the ability to approve or deny registrations.
