I have set up a small wiki and in general it's

[edit this page]. First question: Do I want the whole thing or just the
bits between the includeonly tags?
Down at the bottom of the page is a section that says "Pages transcluded
onto the current version of this page:" with a list of 17 templates
(including the one I'm on, oddly enough). Do I need to get all those in
order for this template to work on my wiki? I assume I'll need to
follow some of these dependencies or will this list cover everything?
I assume I just go to
http://mysite/index.php/Template:Infobox_Person,
click on the link to create a new page and past the code copied from
Wikipedia. Is that right?
Am I missing anything or should that be enough? That's what I
tried and it doesn't seem to have been enough but if it SHOULD be, then
it's operator error.
Sorry for the beginner's question. The documentation for copying
templates from another site is a bit thin.
You may want to try using an interwiki link to get this template to work
on your site. Unless you are willing to spend the time and effort to
copy and install every linked template or Special page that is
transcluded onto the template that you want, then every thing that is
transcluded onto each of the transcluded templates, and then... it is
one system interconnected, and grows geometrically.
I found it more beneficial to copy the templates, (everything inside the
edit window) then edit out what I really did not need, including links
to other templates, especially those that contained comments or
instructions, & cosmetic features. I use an external editor gedit or
kate then copy and paste the finished product into the empty box on my
site. The 'editing' features are far better and you have script
highlighting available on these editors. If you on a system other than
Linux, you can search around for an editor with script highlighting
features. It may end up looking somewhat different than Wikipedia, but
then why not be different.
Best Wishes!
