Hi,
I'm a developer of http://wikify.appointment.at/ - a web service to enrich any text with links to Wikipedia article. This is just a JavaScript experiment of mine, but friends keep asking me why this feature is not available in Wikipedia/MediaWiki itself.
So here I'm just making sure MediaWiki developers are aware of the idea/function. I'm sure you can do it better than me, but let me know if I can help you in any way.

Hi Slawa, thank you for your interest in developing around Wikipedia and MediaWiki!

You might want to ask/propose directly at the discussion page of the Wikify project:

Apparently there was automatic wikification in the early days, but it was removed:

If you want to offer this feature to other MediaWiki based sites, then a first step would be to offer it as an extension:

I hope these links are useful for getting your idea closer to the people that potentially could use it and/or could help you improving it.
