Now that the wiki is up and running I have a couple of
questions.
The first is about having two wiki running on the same
set of include files. The second about having the same
wiki being accessed from two different places on the
net.
1) would it be possible to run more than one wiki on
the same basic files?
How should I modify the LocalSettings to create the
new wiki? DO I have to generate a new Database and a
new user of the database?
2) I am interested in accessing the same wiki from two
different location. One would be the basic location
(with a name easy to remember), and the second would
be as a subdirectory of my webpage. Would that be
possible? I tried to copy all the files on the
directory /wiki to another directory /wok and the
subdirectory images and and stylesheet and the whole
thing appeared to be accessible both at /wiki and
/wok.
This is interesting in itself (as a partial answer to
the second question), but is ite safe to do so?
Many thanks for any answer,
Pietro

Is it at all possible to turn on the {{msg:}} transclusion without
having the database messages on?
We had {{msg:}} transclusion enabled on Wikitravel up until moving to
MediaWiki 1.2.x, after which I had to turn on the DB messages, too, to
have this work.
We _don't_ have memcache up, and I don't really have the wherewithal
to get it working. Retrieving all the interface messages from the DB
for every single page hit is inestimably wasteful, and has measurable
time costs.
Any help appreciated.

None of these produced any result. The log files are all the same,
except for the Request bit.

I think you're going to have to assume I know a little less than you on
this stuff :(

Hi - I have trouble getting Mediawiki to accept file upload on a Windows NT
server with Apache, On another NT server it works fine.
The Error is:
Could not copy file "C:/tmp/php1AA.tmp" to
"C:\webroot\kiwi/images/e/e6/Sample.jpg".
The permissions on the images folder are allright, and a small homemade php
script for uploading has no trouble doing that to the folder.
I'we checked the php.ini, httpd.conf and Localsettings.php on both servers
for differences, but without finding any clues.
I realize that I could reinstall Apache, PHP and even MySQL on the one
server, but I'd rather not, so if anyone has a few ideas what I ought to try
next, it would be appreciated.
NT Server with Upload not working
Apache 2.0.48
MediaWiki: 1.2.4
PHP: 4.3.4
MySQL: 4.0.18-nt
NT server with Upload Working
Apache 2.0.43
MediaWiki: 1.2.4
PHP: 4.3.1
MySQL: 3.23.55-nt

LocalSettings.php is the only place you should have to add it. (Add it
*after* the include() of DefaultSettings.php, of course.)

Adding this line does nothing in either LocalSettings.php or index.php.
Do I also have to turn on debugging somehow? Anyone?
Hello all,
I've been running the stable branches for quite a while, but wanted to
branch out into the HEAD release to try some of the new features in a
sandbox.
For background, I'm running Debian testing (Sarge).
I downloaded the latest software from CVS into the phase3 directory. I
tried to do a command-line install using install.php but this does not
appear to be working. Reading the script, some of the necessary
directories are not referenced or copied in install.php. I know the
install.php installation is not working in the stable branches. Is this
true with the HEAD branch as well?
I decided to try the in-place install. I copied the entire phase3
directory to a place accessible by my web server and renamed it to
something more appropriate (testwiki). I ran the in-place install and
everything worked perfectly.
One downside with this approach is that I now have a bunch of files
accessible to my web server that I am sure don't need to be there.
Since a lot of this is new, I'm not sure what I can remove now that the
Wiki is running, nor do I know what might be a security risk. Has
anyone done a writeup on cleaning up/securing an installation of the
HEAD branch? I wasn't able to find anything via Google.
The other downside is that I expect HEAD to be updated quite often.
Since install.php and upgrade.php expect files to be in different
locations than the in-place install, how do you update the installation
to the latest version from CVS?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. As a side note, I am
really impressed with some of the new features and especially the mono
style.

That would explain why the tags dissapear when I put print statements in index.php to try to figure out where it's dying.

Ahh, that's interesting.... but seems ok.

Where? Index.php?

I'll do the suggested stuff/ Would it help if I posted the files you mention to the list for examination? Do you have examples of "different page/special page/edit page" in an empty wiki, like the direct URL that I can type in?

Hi All
I have run through the install process on my Debian box using the web
installer thing, and all I get for my troubles is a blank page...well
not entirely blank, it contains the following:
<html><body></body></html>
The install process seems to work OK, it indicates success and
everything. I've just run it again so I could copy and paste the info I
get back, and the same thing happens. Here is what I see:
MediaWiki 1.2.4 installation
Checking environment...
* PHP 4.3.3 ok
* PHP server API is apache; ok, using pretty URLs
(index.php/Page_Title)
* Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
* Found ImageMagick: /usr/bin/convert; image thumbnailing will be
enabled if you enable uploads.
* Installation directory: /var/www/internal/wiki
* Script URI path:
* Connected to database... 4.0.18-log; enabling MySQL 4 enhancements
* Database wikidb exists
* There are already MediaWiki tables in this database. Checking if
updates are needed...
...ipblocks is up to date.
...already have interwiki table
...indexes seem up to 20031107 standards
...have linkscc table.
...have hitcounter table.
Initialising "MediaWiki" namespace...
Reading....done
Setting up....Done
Processing...Done
Writing...Done
Writing to MediaWiki:All_messages
Finished
* Finished update checks.
Creating LocalSettings.php...
Success! Move the LocalSettings.php file into the parent
directory, then follow this link to your wiki.
...which I dutifully do, resulting the aforementioned blank page. I'd
debug it if I could find *any* info on how to turn on debugging, or
where debugging messages go to :-( certainly nothing is going in the
webserver logs.
Anyone seen this before? Is it a database thing?

Okay, before I explain my problem, I'll give my setup details.
Windows XP Professional
Apache 2.0.49
Php 4.3.6
MediaWiki 1.2.3
Now, whenever I try to setup MediaWiki (from scratch), I'll configure it with no problems (At least, so it says), but after I run the install script from the /config directory and click on the 'Your wiki is setup! Now go on to your wiki' link, it sends me to the index.php of the main directory. But it only gives me a blank page in Internet Explorer. Refreshing doesn't help. I've tried manually fixing the problem but I have no clue what's causing it. But it happens after the 'include_once('Localsettings.php');' is run in the Index.php.
I also tried running the 'classic' setup from scratch, and the classic setup DELETES all the data in the index.php file, just leaving it as a blank file sitting there. It also deletes the data from several other files in the main directory of the Wiki.
Any clue what is going on? I've searched the web and come up with very little to explain exactly what it is that's causing either of these problems.
Thanks,
Xy
