I distinctly remember there was a way to add a title to a special page simply by entering in a URL, then adding the title to the wiki edit field, and then saving. The new "writing a new special page" how-to is very confusing - and it wants me to write PHP to get the title to show up. There was an easier way... I can't find this how-to anywhere- though I'm sure it used to exist. FX can you walk me through how you've added a wiki page title to a special page? Are there any good resources for writing scripts and gadgets

I'm currently trying to adapt several gadgets that are meant for wikis using the Monobook/Vector skins to the Monaco skin, and so far, I've managed to successfully port over the UTC Clock gadget and Sandbox page gadget to Monaco, but aside from those I've been having trouble since, frankly, my knowledge of Javascript/JQuery is slim and I'm not familiar with all the variables used in writing user scripts. I've fairly decent with CSS style sheets, but I still need help with Javascript, so does anyone know of some good resources I could look into, preferably tailored for writing scripts on MediaWiki? Also, if anyone wants to see what I have done so far (and have released publicly), the wiki I have been testing my live gadget/user script code on is here: https://mediawikitesters.orain.org/wiki/Main_Page

Recent parser change regarding tildes in comments?

Has the parser just been changed with regards to tildes (~~~~) inside HTML comments? It appears they used to be ignored, and are now suddenly being replaced en masse the next time someone edits the page (and can't be easily reverted - it just changes the sig to the reverter's instead). Understanding the generation of thumbs ...

Heiya, I would like to understand a bit better how thumbs are generated by MediaWiki with the help of ImageMagick. Basically what I want to achieve is that only 4 thumbs are generated per uploaded file. I figured that "$wgThumbLimits" [0] is the setting to control this so I set: $wgThumbLimits = array( 180, 200, 250, 300 ); I assumed that if the user can only select one of the given sizes I would MediaWiki would only generate thumbs in the sizes defined with the setting. What I however got is thumbs in up to 12 sizes ranging from 120px to 2880px depending on the size of the file uploaded. So this setting is not the one and I did not really find a setting allowing me to control thumb generation. I am kinda lost in thumbs now so any hint will be appreciated ... title only search and display

I've been trying to find the right way to do this, unsure if its easy and if so what the easiest way to go about it would be (api,extension,skin,etc) mediawiki is almost too configurable. Meidawiki with cirrussearch is pretty good, however I miss one big thing from our previous moinmoin setup and thats a quick simple search and display of wiki article titles. What I would like is a button which will take the string from the search field in mediawiki, perform a title search to grab any article with that string in the title and disaply all the articles , titles only, in alphabetic order. Any suggestions if such a thing already exists or what my best avenue to approach this would be given the various ways one can modify mediawiki ? appreciate any thoughts on the topic. we have a fairly small private wiki so this kind of search works really well, for myself at least. -- __________________________ Denis Alan Hainsworth denis.hainsworth(a)gmail.com

Hi list, Newbie alert !! I have a question about MediaWiki and calendaring integration and hope this is the correct list to ask ? I work in a technical support organization where we do use MediaWiki to share information between peers globally. Due to progressing requirements, I would like to integrate a calendar within our MediaWiki because of it's flexibility and ease of use for everyone. I have the following requirements : - LDAP user integration. [1] Maintain wiki rights for LDAP users, [2] Restrict calendar rights and maintain the ability to track changes and to revert when needed. - No external access. We do not want to rely on external sites as for example Google for both security and privacy concerns. - Support multiple calendars We need the ability to add multiple calendars to the same wiki in order accommodate different needs for different teams. - Event display Calendar should display an appropriate event field with possibly additional detail. I have looked at some Calendar extensions but not yet found what I am looking for. Are there any MediaWiki Calendar extensions that people here use in similar fashion and/or perhaps can recommend, or have people here built customized wiki-integrated solutions for this type of use ? The consensus could also be we need to look at alternative and perhaps more 'heavy-weight' solutions for this task. Just looking for ideas here, and appreciate your thoughts and insights, since a MediaWIki solution would be preferred. Best regards Hans

Enforce a minimum article size

I'd like to prevent users from creating new pages that barely have anything in them. I can't find any options to enforce a minimum article size. There is a variable for the config for a maximum article size but not a minimum. Any suggestions? Thanks A

URLs to Uploaded Files are Being Unintentionally Redirected

Hello all: I have a MediaWiki installation--viewable at "http://www.alecexposed.org/"--that is running MediaWiki 1.27.1, PHP 5.6.27 and MySQL 5.1.56, and have come across a couple of issues that have me stumped. 1. The URLs to some of the uploaded files are redirecting improperly when accessed without the "www." prefix. For example, when I click on http://alecexposed.org/w/images/c/c8/1R10-Right_to_Work_Act_Exposed.pdf, the "www." prefix is appended, as intended, but the "w/images/" portion is being stripped from the URL. I have no clue why this is happening, given the current .htaccess file, the contents of which follow: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^alecexposed\.org$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.alecexposed.org/$1 [L,R=301] RewriteRule ^/?wiki/(.*)$ /w/index.php?title=$1 [PT,L,QSA] RewriteRule ^/?wiki/*$ /w/index.php [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^/*$ /w/index.php [L,QSA] 2. Hi all, We've a problem when using the Visual Editor with a https-protected wiki (MW version 1.27.1): images in a wikipage aren't displayed when editing a page where this does happen in Read mode. View source of the page contains: <a href="/wiki/index.php/File:MyImage.jpg" class="image"><img alt="MyImage.jpg" src="/images/5/5a/MyImage.jpg" width="208" height="199" /> Console of the browser gives this error message: "GET https://localhost/images/5/5a/MyImage.jpg net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED". PageContentSaveComplete not called for ImportDump.php?

Hello, When ImportDump.php is run, PageContentSaveComplete hooks are not called, unless I'm mistaken. Is this true, and if so, is it by design, or an oversight? How could one make sure that a task gets done whenever a page is created or modified through the browser, the api, or ImportDump.php? Would some other hook be more suitable for that? Spawning images for test purposes

Hello everyone, I am writing unit tests for an extension, and as part of this test, I need to use the names of files on-wiki. My own wiki set up has Instant Commons, so these tests pass just fine. However, in Jenkins, the tests fail[0] because the Jenkins testing environment has no access to images. This is a perfectly reasonable behavior, though it is inconvenient. My question then is, for the purposes of the test, how can I “spawn” an image into existence so that it is available for use in the test? But in many Mediawiki installations it does not work. So I fear that a lot of Wiki maintainers do not knew, how to implement/enable this... Whilst uploading a picture i get this error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 27622732 bytes) in /home/harry-arends.nl/public_html/mat54_Wiki/includes/media/Bitmap.php on line 443 It's a lot of information but what is it?? 1) The file is to big 2) Not enough space on server 3) Local PC problem. My problem: I want to open an intranet wiki to the outside world, with Google login to even view anything beyond the fact of its existence. (I emailed the list about this before, and it's working great and everyone is very pleased.) We have an external IP, which accepts SSL on 443 and http:// on 80, and passes both through to the back-end server as plaintext on port 80. So both https://example.wiki and http://example.wiki work, because we have legacy http:// URLs in documentation *everywhere* that need to keep working. Trouble is: how do I get it, when it gets an http:// URL, to auto-redirect to https:// ? Remember that the server sees *only* http:// connections, it isn't doing SSL at all - SSL is terminated at the external IP. I had to make the GoogleLogin extension (0.3.1) accept both http:// and https:// versions of Special:GoogleLogin for login to work on http:// pages. (Can Apache even see if the incoming request was originally https:// ?) Ideas welcome! - d.

Hello, I installed yesterday the latest available wikibase repository extension on a fresh install of Mediawiki 1.28 (PHP 5.6.29). I followed the instructions of https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikibase/Installation. After the installation, I wondered how to create a new item since I noticed I should add the /Special:NewItem suffix to the base URL. However, is ther any user documentation where I could previously find this information ? As informations to create properties ? What is more, is the software behind the /Wikidata Query Service/ available for use on my own wiki ? missing Thumbnails after update to 1.28

After the update to the latest version i have some pages where i get the error thumbnail-image is missing (http://www.mat54-wiki.nl/mat54_Wiki//index.php/Bestand:RAL9006.png <http://www.mat54-wiki.nl/mat54_Wiki/index.php/Bestand:RAL9006.png> ) Before I updated I saved the images directory and after the update I copied it to the updated site. Pass category into template

I recently upgraded to 1.28. Before the update I could pass a category into a template: <includeonly>{| |align="center"|Also see [[{{#if: {{{term|}}}|{{{term}}}|{{{1}}}| }}]] |}</includeonly> But now it fails if I pass "Category:Foo" or ":Category:Foo". In the first case (with term=) it tries to assign the category to the page the template is on. In the second case it fails at the colon. I have tried using : and making a template:colon that returns : -- both failed. I feel that I am missing something simple, but can't figure it out. -Bri

Help! Session changed every page visit, can't login&save after upgrade to MW1.28

Hi guys! We just upgrade our wiki to MW 1.28 and the session totally failed. The symptom is session id changed every time user refresh/visit new page. Therefore, users can't login nor save edits. (*"There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has been canceled as a precaution against session hijacking. Go back to the previous page, reload that page and then try again" / **Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in.*) We tried $wgSessionCacheType = CACHE_DB; / CACHE_ACCEL; and 'redis'; as well as set the $wgCookieDomain+$wgCookiePrefix but does not solve this error at all. https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T156882 bug reported here but not any known fix for that. Locked-down intranet on public hostile Internet - how best to do this?

We have an intranet wiki running 1.27 from tarball. I just installed the previous version of GoogleLogin (0.3.1, because automatic account creation works and it doesn't in 0.4). So you now need Google Login on one of our whitelisted GApps domains to read it, let alone edit it. What we want is to make this available on the public Internet (SSL of course) so that workers in our international offices can use it, if they're logged into their work Google account. This is pretty much the "hard shell, tasty soft centre" security model. Is this a desperately unsafe thing to do? Has anyone else done this or something like it? (We could put basic auth in front of it as well, but this is for the sort of non-technical worker who this would desperately confuse. We probably can't lock it to given IP ranges either.) - d.
