(New to mediawiki-l, so unsure if this has been discussed before)
Is there a sort of 'Extension Bundle' that gets you baseline stuff that
people who are used to wikipedia 'expect'? ParserFunctions and Cite come to
mind, but I'm sure there are plenty others.

Hey Ram! Welcome to mediawiki-india :)
Agreed on all points, and I see some parts where we could collaborate and
start putting together stuff. If I'm reading this right, here are the
potential projects that might be done:
1. A default mediawiki installation bundle (MW + A bunch of Extensions)
2. A default 'templatekit' (Commonly used templates from enwiki / other
wikis)
3. Better 'levels' of information/deetail on the Manual
Perhaps we could start doing internal hackathons (online, with experienced
people from the India MW community pitching in) to do these things? These
won't be workshops, but online events for us to get stuff done. Thoughts?
Semantic Mediawiki is a lot of fun (despite a few performance problems that
prevent it from being used on large wikis). Nischay is a contributor for
SMW from India, but I don't think he's on this list yet. I'll forward this
to him and see what we can do about that too!
Thanks!
P.S. I'll forward this to mediawiki-l in a while, since I think it is
relevant there too.

Brion,
Thanks for your response, and I understand your point. However if the
question "Gender" is asking for what gender characteristic to use then
the answers should be "Masculine" and "Feminine" instead of "Male" and
"Female."
OK, so this is a new wiki (somebody please tell me if I'm sending these
messages to the wrong list) and although I am a bureacrat I don't see an
undo, revert, or other page management links on the history pages. I
know there must be something fundamental I have forgotten. Ideas?
Hello everyone, I'm back and lots dumber than the first time around.
At one time the word "Gender" in the user profile preferences page was
configurable as a system message. On my wiki I want to change the word
to "Sex" (since it is asking whether the user is male or female) but I
cannot locate where that word is found in Special:AllMessages.
Anyone know?
Hi,
I have many pages that invoke templates with a date argument.
I'd like to see if I can use the SIMILE timeline widget to build a
timeline with links to the pages.
The SIMILE timeline widget gets its data from script blocks, so I was
wondering if I could use DPL to scrape out the dates and the pages and
then use its formatting to output a script block that would supply the
data to the timeline widget.
Alternative solutions to populate the timeline widget data would also
be appreciated.
Thanks!
