Is there a way to see the wikitext of an article in read-only mode, i.e.,
such that I cannot accidentally change it? This can be useful, of course,
for copying wikitext to another article.
Thanks

I'm using Extension:RSS to display a recent changes feed in my wiki. My
question is: for the category I'm filtering on, there hasn't been much
activity or added content recently so it's just displaying the last
entry which was 5 days ago *and* no more. Anyone know how to go back
further in time to get more items to display in the RSS feed ?
Thanks,
Chris

I volunteered to administrate a wiki which was left to itself for
quite some time.
The previous admin left in a bad way and it's possible he messed stuff
up purposefully before he left.
So I upgraded the wiki to 1.19.1 by copying the LocalSettings.php over
to a folder containing 1.19.1, then commenting out all stuff by the
old admin I didn't like and then using the web updater.
The wiki is running at the moment, but I have one problem: When I try
to register a test account, it doesn't work:
> The user account was not created, as we could not confirm its
> source. Ensure you have cookies enabled, reload this page and try
> again.
When trying to log into my existing account, I get
> PandoraWiki uses cookies to log in users. You have cookies
> disabled. Please enable them and try again.
But cookies are enabled. I even tried another browser to be sure.
The server also has no problems with cookies in principle: I wrote a
test script (see http://wiki.openpandora.de/myCookieTest.php) and I
could set cookies from there just fine.
I also read about the config option to disable the cookie check, so I
put the following line into my LocalSettings.php:
$wgDisableCookieCheck=true;
But that doesn't change anything.
I've also redownloaded MediaWiki, checked whether the downloaded
archive was correct, unpacked it and reuploaded all files again to be
sure there are no problems there.
So now I've kinda run out of ideas what might be the problem.
If you want to see yourself, the wiki is located there:
http://wiki.openpandora.de/index.php?title=Spezial:Anmelden
There are also some problems with some (not all) thumbnails (see the
mainpage), but I haven't really looked into that, it's far down my
priority list at the moment.

Yes I did.
But if you want you could try out whether /you/ can register, I'll
change the German text captcha for a while so you people can easily
solve it too. :-)
(huh? seems that wasn't posted to the list, only to Frank)

(Apologies if this is a FAQ, but brief googling found nothing.)
Can one edit a "true MediaWiki" (MW) in a manner similar to how one
interacts with a GitHub wiki (GHW, aka gollum)
https://github.com/blog/699-making-github-more-open-git-backed-wikis
? Why I ask:
As part of an attempt to do more "open science" (more on that
separately), I'm starting to use GHW instead of my group's MW. This is
not as easy as I would like, and has one major problem: the github wiki
engine (gollum) merely "supports" MW wikitext. I.e., there are bugs
(things that work in "real" MW, but fail on GHW), and GHW's rendering
is generally butt-ugly compared to MW.
OTOH, editing a GHW is a joy. A GHW is backed by a git repo, so I can
interact with it "VC-style":
# whack away @ local files with my local editor
# commit to my local repo
# push to remote on github
# refresh my browser
and see the changes. (One can also run a local gollum and test locally
before pushing "to the world," but I am too lazy for that.)
I'd much love to have "the best of both worlds," i.e., a "real MW"
with correct/pretty wikitext rendering, but with which I can interact
in VC-style (and preferably with git). Can that be done? I.e., can MW
be configured to do this, or is anyone working on a version that
supports this interaction style?

Actually, you don't have to register for Wikimania to come to the
hackathon. The registration fee is only required for the main
conference days; everyone is welcome to come to the hackathon days and
unconference for free. So tell your DC friends to sign up at
https://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon and come!

Hello everybody,
I have a page that uses 3 templates.
This page shows 3 infoboxes, each one containing the data of one template.
My problem is that all the infoboxes show the page title as its title. For
example, if my page is called "Spring", all my infoboxes shows the title
"Spring".
Is there some way to do that my infoboxes show the titles of my templates?
Thanks in advance,
Marcelo.
There is a patch file to go from 1.19.0 to 1.19.1. What is the Linux
command line to apply this patch cleanly to a live installation of
1.19.0? Is there one?

I am looking to gather some statistics on the hit counts of pages of a
wiki. There is a "main page": http://www.vtk.org/Wiki/VTK/Examples/Cxx that
has a hit counter, but often users to directly to a sub page (e.g.
http://www.vtk.org/Wiki/VTK/Examples/Cxx/GeometricObjects/Sphere) so their
hit is not recorded on the "main page" hit counter, but rather on the sub
page's counter. To get an idea of the total number of hits, is there some
way to sum all of the hit counters occurring on pages "beneath"
VTK/Examples/Cxx ?
Thanks,
David
Hi,
I am getting ready to upgrade from version 1.14.0 to the latest release. I noticed that the documentation states:
PHP 5.3.2 or later
Several previous releases supported PHP 5.2.3 and later, except 5.3.1, which has a bug preventing MediaWiki from functioning properly<http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=50394>.
We are currently at php 5.2.6, I realize and want to upgrade php as well, however if the boss says not to take the time to do such am I reading the statement right that it'll be ok to keep php at 5.2.6?
Thankx,
Kurt
