(Cross-posted from Project:Support_desk)
I get:
"MediaWiki internal error.
Exception caught inside exception handler"
and nothing in the Apache error log.
Versions---
MediaWiki: 1.16.2
Apache2: 2.2.17
PHP5: 5.3.5-5.12.1
OS: openSUSE 11.4 x86_64
Any other information I should provide in order to receive troubleshooting
advice?

A blank page usually means a php error (check your php and web server logs). Also check permissions on the extension software and make sure your web service can execute.

I tried to install that but I get a blank page.

Take a look at the Vector extension. It offers a variety of progressive enhancements for the Vector skin.

Since updating from 1.15 to 1.16 I can no longer edit a page by double click, even if I enable that option in my preferences. A bug? A known problem? Any work around?
Thx
Bernhard
Hi everyone,
I searched the archive for a while and couldn't find any advice on this
subject, nor on Mediawiki really.
Right now I have the "feeling", the wiki has so many problems, it would be
good to have a clean install and start "from scratch" - without loosing all
the content obviously... details and questions below:
My (wiki's) situation:
* MW 1.16, hosted on dreamhost, approx. 150 users, can only be read and
edited by approved members.
* active since 3,5 years
* hosted on dreamhost, one-click advanced install, in the past I preferred
to use their automatic updates, not to have too much hassle about it.
Problems:
* in the past all these extensions worked, but I can't get them to work
anymore: ConfirmAccount, Collection.
* SVGs don't show anymore properly
* some minor problems ...
So, now I'm thinking, a fresh install will help.
* make it all new, maybe use subversion this time to install MW
* install all extensions I need, be more specific this time - I learned a
lot in those 3 years, about what I need etc ...
* somehow transfer the data, files and the users from the "old wiki"...
* invite the other 500 people that wait for access ...
About me and my level of proficiency:
I'm not a professional but ended up doing it all by myself, spending many
hours searching subversion manuals etc ....
My questions:
* is a fresh install advisable?
* the way I outlined it above, could this work?
* do you have experiences on this?
* or any other recommendations?
Thanks a lot, sorry for the very long email ;-)
Flo
To create a sort of breadcrumbs I use MediaWiki:Tagline (need to change CSS), Extension:ParserFunctions,
and the following wiki text:
MyWiki
{{#if: {{NAMESPACE}} |
> {{NAMESPACE}}
}}
> {{#titleparts: {{PAGENAME}} | 1 | 1 }}
{{#if: {{#titleparts: {{PAGENAME}} | 1 | 2 }} |
> {{#titleparts: {{PAGENAME}} | 1 | 2 }}
}}
{{#if: {{#titleparts: {{PAGENAME}} | 1 | 3 }} |
> {{#titleparts: {{PAGENAME}} | 1 | 3 }}
}}
This results, for instance in a tagline like this:
MyWiki > Help > Editing > Lists
on a page with the title Help:Editing/Lists
Ideally, I would like to add links, for instance
[[Mainpage|MyWiki]], etc. but this does not work. The code in MediaWiki:Tagline is not parsed into a linktext, even if I try somethig like
{{fullurl:Mainpage}}, etc.
Any suggestion?
Thx in advance
Bernhard
The site I work on has a small wiki used by administrators for internal
discussions. Over the years people have joined the group and then left.
When they left, their accounts were blocked, but many have left the email
notifications set in preferences. As these accounts age, the email
addresses associated with them sometimes become invalid. This means
emails sent to those addresses because of changes on watchlists bounce.
Right now the way we handle this problem is to reset the password for the
user causing the bounces, login to the account and deselect all email
notification options in preferences. However, it would be better if we
could just reset the email preferences on all inactive accounts. Is there
anyway of doing this other than resetting the password on each account
(of which there are many)? We run 1.16.2 on this small wiki.

All,
For my low traffic internal Wiki, I want to enable email notification on Every page update, not just the first (items on the watchlist only email alert you to changes for the next change since you last read or edited a page).
How do I enable this ?
Jon.

Can someone please explain, or point me to doc concerning, the difference between System Messages and Templates? I thought I understood until beginning to research customizing the Sidebar.
Thank you,
John
