Recent parser change regarding tildes in comments?

Has the parser just been changed with regards to tildes (~~~~) inside HTML comments? It appears they used to be ignored, and are now suddenly being replaced en masse the next time someone edits the page (and can't be easily reverted - it just changes the sig to the reverter's instead). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/2006-06-02-ear… for an example.

I distinctly remember there was a way to add a title to a special page simply by entering in a URL, then adding the title to the wiki edit field, and then saving. The new "writing a new special page" how-to is very confusing - and it wants me to write PHP to get the title to show up. There was an easier way... I can't find this how-to anywhere- though I'm sure it used to exist. FX can you walk me through how you've added a wiki page title to a special page? Mysql ISAM vs InnoDB

$wgDBtransactions gets set to true if using InnoDB tables. Is there an advantage to using InnoDB tables? The disadvantage is that with MySQL there is a file, ibdata1, that seems to grow endlessly if InnoDB tables are used. automatic template inclusion in new pages?

Hi, Is there a way to ensure that a template is included in all pages of a particular namespace? I'd like to use our mediawiki to allow people to annotate some things in a biology project, and the wiki URLs will be generated automatically by an external program. The queue with this that needed to be done was one a week when I started but its grown to 10 a week. With the holidays coming up and that means lots of out of office replays I guess its time to find a list moderator to help out. Single-sign one without Extension:CentralAuth?

We have a wikifarm with a number of wikis and central media repositories. We are missing a single sign-on - presently, if someone is signed into a wiki and uploads a file, this one has to sign in a second time. The "obvious" solution is to do the same as wikimedia, i.e. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CentralAuth However, the page above warns in no unclear words to rather use $wgSharedDB (which we already do). But while this offers single-authorization ("password storage"), it provides no single-sign on. Advice? What are our options? thanks! Gregor

Providing RSS feeds / content for other websites

Basically I have content that I want other websites (blogs, facebook, other websites) to use and display. For example a list of our new articles, or excerpts of news stories that are randomly picked from a pool of content. I'm guessing exporting stuff into RSS is the best way to provide content to other websites. Although I-Frame could also be one, or maybe not, I'm not sure. I've looked at these RSS feed generating extensions: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Category:Feed_generator_extensions But I havent found anything that can work. One does only bulleted lists (Bullet Feed) and another (WikiArticleFeeds) only works with 2nd level headings and they're both very restricted. Does anyone have any advice about this or any experience to share? thank you Erik

German wikipedia redirect to English Startpage

Hi there, I have installed on my NAS Mediawiki. With PHP 5 and Mediawiki 1.16.2. The database is Mysql 4.0 with unicode support. After I converted the XML file into a SQL dump with mwdumper and all imported. Then I called on the Mediawiki directory in my web browser. The browser then redirects me to the page on en.wikipedia.org. I think that's stored somewhere en.wikipedia.org home page. Now my question how I could change that, that I when I load the mediawiki directory to get the data stored in the page. Please help me Yours sincerely, Alexander S.

Help: Using GoogleTranslator with CustomNavBlocks

I'm using the CustomNavBlocks extension to control my sidebar. Not surprisingly, when I add the GoogleTranslator extension, the sidebar translate box doesn't show up. I've verified that the latter is installed correctly by blocking CustomNavBlocks and seeing the translator box. Does anyone know how show the box on a mediawiki page on-demand? Thanks. - skew

Hi, referring to symlinks for multiple websites using a single set of software.... when we upgrade our Mediawiki software to the latest version, do we need to redo all the symlinks again or will it point to the same file and folder names, if the file and folder names remain the same? -- PM Poon

Special characters in URLs in templates

I use a quotation template in my wiki and for years it's been bugging me that external links don't always show up as they should, when used within templates. More often than not a simple {{{1}}} or {{{2}}} occur instead of the expected external link. Now it seems I've traced what seems to be the root of the problem. A URL like this one : http://web.archive.org/web/20061219205042/http://www.dis-danmark.dk/sydfyn/… works well : [ http://web.archive.org/web/20061219205042/http://www.dis-danmark.dk/sydfyn/…] shows up as a correct external link showcasing "source" highlighted in light blue. A URL like this one : http://www.dis-sydfyn.dk/viewpage.php?page_id=4 does not work : [http://www.dis-sydfyn.dk/viewpage.php?page_id=4 source] shows simply as {{{2}}} The differences in the two URLs are the use of the characters "?" and "=" in the latter case. If these are replaced by "/" the external link is highlighted, but of course won't lead one anywhere. Case in question : http://notatwiki.dk/index.php?title=Rejsen_til_Amerika The template itself is pretty straightforward. It uses to variables and contains only this bit of HTML and MediaWiki markup : <blockquote class="toccolours" style="line-height: 1.5em;"> <div style="text-align=left";>{{{1}}}</div> <div style="text-align: right; font-style:normal;">{{{2}}}</div> </blockquote>" Any ideas for a remedy to make these URL's work in templates? Raw links seem(!) to work regardless of what characters they contain, so the problem seems related to the [ ] containment of the URL. SSL Authentication with AD

Hi Everyone, I made a similar post (AD Template Request) but now my config is fine I need to ask a different question, hence the new post. I've managed to get our mediawiki setup authenticating to my Active Directory backend with no encrpytion fine. Now I want to authenticate with using LDAPS, but unable to do so. I've read through the documentation and mailing lists but still cannot find an adequate solution. The things that have been tried: - Created C:\openldap\sysconf\ldap.conf and entered "TLS_REQCERT never" - No change - Tried using OpenSSL to get certificate, error message on connect - 348:error:140790E5:SSL routines:SSL23_WRITE:ssl handshake failure:.\ssl\s23_lib.c:177: Anyone got any ideas? move/delete page with symbols in URL

Hi, Running MediaWiki 1.11, someone inadvertently (I hope) created a page with the monstrous name: Https://indecorp.ibe.netbooker.com/web/FrontController.nb4?module=PropertyS… I'd like to move or delete this to something less horrible, if only because it still shows up in the site directory -- for which I'm using the DynamicPageList extension. Even with the hex escapes, it seems immune to Special:MovePage; I can delete it, but the link still shows up in the directory. Just hiding it would be fine with me. Hi, yesterday http://c2ilibre.free.fr/ worked and I did not change anything, but today it says: Error 500 - Internal server error. My other wiki http://linuxlea.free.fr/linux/wiki/ still works. Any idea ? Klaus

mediawiki rewrites url and includes port in link

Hello, I have the following setup: haproxy load balancer which listens on port 80 apache which listens on port 79 nginx which listens on port 81 When I access www.mysite.com/wiki haproxy automatically delivers the request to nginx. The problem is that the mediawiki scripts rewrite my URL from www.mysite.com/wiki/ to www.mysite.com:81/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page If I give the full link like so: www.mysite.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page it does work without showing up the port. I have tried to comment out the following line in index.php: $mediaWiki->initialize( $wgTitle, $wgArticle, $wgOut, $wgUser, $wgRequest ); and it no longer includes the port in the URL, but it also no longer displays content in pages. What can I do?

[mediawiki-l] Restoring wiki from xml-dump plus files in folder

We have an xml-dump and the folder structure of files (in their md5-derived, 2-folder levels) as backup and want to restore on a new server, current mediawiki version (1.18 alpha). We did ./maintenance/importDump.php ./maintenance/rebuildAll.php All went well, but mediawiki does not know about the files yet. I thought running ./maintenance/rebuildImages.php is the right thing to do, but it is undocumented and does not achieve anything. output is: Processing image... Finished image... 0 of 0 rows updated Processing oldimage... Finished oldimage... 0 of 0 rows updated Any hints how to restore the image to the wiki? thanks! Gregor

Trouble with MediaWiki:Common.css?

I have set up a small MediaWiki site some months ago. I wanted to change the appearance of tables, and did the following: >From the english Wikipedia, I opened the page with the common style sheet (MediaWiki:Common.css), copied the content and pasted it into the corresponding page in "my" MediaWiki installation. However, after some minutes the entire site suddenly became completely inaccessible! Of course, I suspect the change of Common.css. But I might certainly have done other unintended changes. My questions: 1) Any proposals on how I can get access to the wiki again? 2) If not, are there any way I can "undo" the changes to Common.css when I have no access to the Wiki? (The wiki is installed on a webhotel (http://www.one.com). I have no shell access, but access via FTP and an administration panel for MySql. Hoping for an answer... Hi, I'm trying to save a dead wiki (well, what's dead is the server) from a db dump. It was an old version (MW 1.10). After importing the dump the wiki works but with the page titles corrupted (accents and other special characters). After following this... http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Backing_up_a_wiki#Character_set ... to change from latin-1 to UTF-8; mysql give me an error when I try to import to a new database: ERROR 1071 (42000) at line 340: Specified key was too long; max key length is 1000 bytes Well, I don't know what I can do to arrange that. Any idea? (please for dummies if possible, step by step :) thanks in advance - dvdgmz.

Interchanging namespaces

Hi, this does sound stupid but because I am converting all my individual websites to use a single set of MediaWiki software, I wonder whether it is possible to standardize my namespaces. As it is, my chronology namespace, say, is using namespace 104 in one website and namespace 108 in another. Is it possible to change them all to say, 104, in order to standardize them? -- PM Poon
