importing uploaded files between installations

Hi all, some months ago I installed MediaWiki locally for personal use. Now I'm trying to migrate my existing MediaWiki installation to a new machine, but I found a problem. I used the `maintenance/dumpBackup.php` and `maintenance/importDump.php` scripts to transfer textual content from one database to another, and I copied over the images/ folder, containing all the uploaded files; the problem is that the new MediaWiki instance seems not be able to recognize them, since for example, the Special:Newimagespage is empty and existing links to media files in articles are broken. Now my question is: what's the right way, if one, to import all the uploaded files into the new installation, possibly without losing all files' metadata information (as their descriptions) and restoring links in articles ? Question about page protection

Greetings all, Is it possible for an extension to set a page as "protected"? I have a tag that displays help info for my extension, I'd like to drop it in a page, and have the tag set the page as protected via a parameter. The idea is to allow the tag to display its output but have the page be protected from editing. Thanks for any advice, much appreciated. - Vadtec

"INDEX command denied"

Hello, when I try to install mediawiki, I get the following error: * PHP 5.2.10-2ubuntu6.4 installed * Found database drivers for: MySQL SQLite * PHP server API is cgi-fcgi; using ugly URLs (index.php?title=Page_Title) * Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support. * Session save path (/var/lib/php5) appears to be valid. * PHP's memory_limit is 64M. * Couldn't find Turck MMCache, eAccelerator, APC or XCache; cannot use these for object caching. * Found GNU diff3: /usr/bin/diff3. * Found ImageMagick: /usr/bin/convert; image thumbnailing will be enabled if you enable uploads. * Found GD graphics library built-in. * Installation directory: /var/www/web468/html/phys-med.de * Script URI path: * Installing MediaWiki with php file extensions * Environment checked. You can install MediaWiki. * Generating configuration file... * Database type: MySQL * Loading class: DatabaseMysql * Attempting to connect to database server as web468...success. * Connected to mysql 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.1; enabling MySQL 4.1/5.0 charset mode * Database usr_web468_3 exists * Creating tables...Query "CREATE UNIQUE INDEX user_name ON `user` (user_name) " failed with error code "INDEX command denied to user 'web468'@'localhost' for table 'user' (localhost)". Yes, I do, but this is not the problem in this case, as the connection works (see error message). Maps and Semantic Maps 0.6.3 released

Maps [0] and Semantic Maps [1] 0.6.3 are now available for download [2]. This release is one aimed to improve stability and addresses a number of bugs that where present in 0.6.x. Some notable fixed issues are a failure of parsing any coordinates containing a degree symbol that surfaced in 0.6.2, and the failing of non-Google Maps form inputs. Some internal rewriting has also been done, which was needed to address some of these bugs, and will enable future awesomeness increase. The included OpenLayers library has also been upgraded to 2.9.1. (changes to Maps [3], changes to SM [4]). People running any 0.6.x are advised to upgrade. Especially people using Semantic Maps in conjunction with Semantic Forms [5], as both 0.6 and 0.6.1 contain undesired behaviour in the forms. A new release of Semantic Bundle [6], which will include these versions of the mapping extensions, is likely to soon be released as well :) You can also read the release notes on my blog [7] and on the documentation site [8]. Variables on templates

Hi, The example that I've seen is this: In this web: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Matrix_%28franchise%29 at the end is invoqued the {{Matrix}} template. This template calls the NavBox template. Is in this las template where we can read: <td class="navbox-group" style="{{{basestyle|}}};{{{groupstyle|}}};{{{group2style|}}}"> The 'basestyle' has a value but I don't understand where comes from. Moral standards

The high moral standards of the MediaWiki community appeals to me. There is a general believe these standards are higher then in "the outside world". As within any community some persons do not act as they preach. Especially with larger communities this is unfortunately normal. So this also may (might) happen within the MW community. This question seems abstract but seems to me to have practical consequences. I would like to keep this discussion abstract to processes and not to specific situations or persons. Which would only create confusion. In the end of course the result of this discussion can be used as reference to be implemented. How the community act if our high moral standards are abused? Block legal authorities because these authorities can not fulfil our high level of moral standards? With regards, Bernard

API Search for String

Does the MediaWiki API support the Search functionality? I am interested in being able to get a list of pages as if I searched on a particular string (e.g., using the Search box). I looked at the man pages, but didn’t see anything.
