Site name questions
by Philip Beach 20 Mar '09

20 Mar '09

I'd like my wiki name, "My Wiki," to be in the title bar, but I'd like the namespace to be "mWiki". On my PC version, I've set $wgSitename to be "mWiki", and I read somewhere on the MediaWiki site that you can have the name in the title bar be different. Alternatively, I think you may be able to have $wgSitename set to "My Wiki" and the namespace be something different. How can I go about doing this? Thanks, Phil

IM/Mobile/Email Notification extension
by Eric K 20 Mar '09

20 Mar '09

I have to keep checking Recent Changes for my wiki to catch vandalism as it happens. Is there an extention that would send an alert on my IM, cell phone or send me an email when an edit happens? I guess I could edit my current extension to include the email feature but I was wondering if anyone already has such a notification extension with better features that I could make use of. thanks! Eric

Moving the personal-portlet in Monobook
by Claus Juhl Knudsen 20 Mar '09

20 Mar '09

Hi, I´m working on a skin based on Monobook and I've tried to move the 'p-personal'-portlet down in the left column, which was easy enought even for me, but the personal portlet now appears above the navigation-portlet and I would really like it below the toolbox-portlet. How is that done? It doesn't seem to be controlled by css? Apologies for what maybe too basic a problem. Thank you! Claus Juhl Knudsen

Welcome to mediawiki-l. This mailing list exists for discussion and questions about the MediaWiki software[0]. Important MediaWiki-related announcements (such as new versions) are also posted to this list. Other resources. If you only wish to receive announcements, you should subscribe to mediawiki-announce[1] instead. MediaWiki development discussion, and all Wikimedia technical questions, should be directed to the wikitech-l[2] mailing list. Several other MediaWiki-related lists exist: - mediawiki-api[5] for API discussions, - mediawiki-enterprise[6] for discussion of MediaWiki in the enterprise, - mediawiki-cvs[7] for notification of commits to the Subversion repository, - mediawiki-i18n[8] for discussion of MediaWiki internationalisation support, - wikibugs-l[9] for notification of changes to the bug tracker. List administrivia (unsubscribing, list archives). To unsubscribe from this mailing list, visit [12]. Archives of previous postings can be found at [3]. This list is also gatewayed to the Gmane NNTP server[4], which you can use to read and post to the list. Posting to the list. Before posting to this list, please read the MediaWiki FAQ[10]. Many common questions are answered here. You may also search the list archives to see if your question has been asked before. Please try to ask your question in a way that enables people to answer you. Provide all relevant details, explain your problem clearly, etc. You may wish to read [13], which explains how to ask questions well. To post to the list, send mail to <mediawiki-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>. This is a public list, so you should not include confidential information in mails you send. When replying to an existing thread, use the "Reply" or "Followup" feature of your mail client, so that clients that understand threading can sort your message properly. When quoting other messages, please use the "inline" quoting style[11], for clarity. When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the subject. This will confuse peoples' mail readers, and will result in fewer people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post. Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list, which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the list in general, you should change the reply to only go to that person. This avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic. About this message. This message is posted to the list once per week by <river(a)wikimedia.org>. featured articles date of promotion
by Katalin Orosz 17 Mar '09

17 Mar '09

Dear All, We would need the date of promotion for some featured articles promoted in 2006. As we noticed, in featured logs from 2006 the exact date of promotion is not shown like for example in the logs from 2007 and 2008. Would it be appropriate to regard the latest entry date in the log of a given article as its date of promotion? Is there any better way of finding the date of promotion? Thank You very much! Katalin Orosz

developer meet-up is out of room
by Daniel Kinzler 17 Mar '09

17 Mar '09

We have been completly overrun by registrations for the developer meet-up in Berlin. That’s exhilarating, but forces on me the sad duty to tell you: we are out of room, we are closing registration early. So: if you have not yet send a registration mail, you will not be able to attend! Sorry. We may even have to reject some registrations we have already received. There’s some good news too, though: anyone interested my join us at the c-base for the party on saturday March 4., starting 8pm. The developers will be there and people from the chapter and board meeting will also come. This will be a good opportunity for getting to know Wikimedians from all over the world. Regards, Daniel

Re: [Mediawiki-l] How do i correctly move my wiki from domain1.de/winfwiki/index.php to domain2.de/index.php

They aren't stored at MySQL, it's all at LocalSettings.php The caching may be playing bad tricks. Specially if it's still accessible from the old location.
