Hi, On a mediawiki 1.15.1 linux installation, I can upload files smaller than 8 MB without problem. With files >= 8 MB, once the transfer is complete, I am brought directly back to the Upload form, which is empty. The uploaded file is not in the images/ directory and not in the list of new files. This is 100% reproducible. No error is displayed either on the page, or in the apache logs. I also had the problem with 1.14.0. - The maximum php upload size is 40MB so that's not a problem. - I tried increasing max_execution_time and max_input_time in php.ini. These timeouts are definitely not reached. - I tried doubling the maximum memory usage of a php script (now 256MB). - Updated to the latest apache and php5 from debian testing. Any ideas? Thanks pmf

Clearing the mediawiki-database

Hi all, I'm toying with the idea to set up a new wiki-server for a new wiki by cloning my existing virtual machine and thus getting all the configuration in one go. The "only" problem is, that the new wiki should be empty of any content from the "old" wiki, so I'm looking for a way of cleaning out the entire content and users from the cloned wiki-installation. Any suggestions? I know that this approach is rather unusual, because otherwise I'd found more helpful information via Google ;-), but I think it would save a lot of time in contrast to starting the new server and mediawiki-installation from scratch. changer username

Dear list, This is my first post on the list so it might be the wrong place, please forgive me if it is the case and point me to the right place. I am trying to write and Authentication plugin overwriting the AuthPlugin [1] as defined in the doc. My problem is that I need to change the username after having run the authenticate function. There is the flow: - user type in the login form his nick and password. - in the authenticate function I check if the user exists (from an external database) and what is his full name. I check if the user with this full name exists and is allowed to access this wiki (from the wiki database). If all goes fine he can log-in. The point is that I what the user to type his nick and to log-in under his full name. I tried to change the $user->mName in the updateUser function but that seems too late. I could of course changed the LoginForm [2] class but I do not want to do that. I looked for a way to overwrite this class but couldn't find one. Is there any ? Correct manual Wikifarm, possible extensions, hope for future built-in mediawiki functionality

I hope the subject line gives an accurate overview of where I am leading to. I apologize if this question has been asked and answered before. (I am new to the list) 1. What would be the correct way to create a Wikifarm with Mediawiki 1.15 and also 1.16a ? 2. I see many extensions that attempted to facilitate a farm - are there any of them that are worthwhile trying out with the latest Mediawiki versions? 3. What hope is there that this would one day be apart of the Mediawiki roadmap for built-in functionality? (Seems to me that there are sufficient interest in it) Thanks Corneel Booysen.

Converting "_" to "%20" in file:/// url

MediaWiki: 1.12 Host OS: Linux Most of our intranet mediawiki users are very non-technical. We link to a lot of file that resides on Windows shared network drive in our mediawiki articles. There are hundreds and hundreds of such files. These files and their paths have "spaces" in them which needs to be converted into their ASCII equivalent of "%20". Using {{urlencode}} does not work because it converts "spaces" into "+" character according to RFC1738. Right now I am using string replacement extension and created a template called "Delspace" with following function: {{#replace:{{{1}}}| |%20}} and I am using the template in our wiki articles like this (for example): [{{delspace|file///Z:/my project/final results.pdf}} Link to results.pdf] The above works but as I mentioned before, most of the users are non-technical (word doc types) and it is kind of cumbersome for them to use the above template every time they need to put a link to a document. So my question(s) is: 1. Basically I am looking for is a way in which the users won't have to use the template manually every time they need to put a link to a document which have "spaces". 2. Alternatively, is there a way by which all the file:/// urls in a wiki article which have "spaces" get automatically converted into proper urls (with %20 instead of "spaces") when the user hits the "Save Page" button? Any other better solution is also welcomed. Default path settings

Hi there, I am the one who started this section http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual_talk:$wgStylePath#This_is_fucked_up I installed MediaWiki recently, and I am very confused by these purported "default" values. While I would welcome a (re)introduction of $wgLogo in LocalSettings.php, I suspect that this would not solve the root cause of the confusion. I think the key problem is that sometimes what is documented as "default value" of some variables does not correspond to the value of those variables in LocalSettings.php, which is what I (and apparently many other people) expected. So, for example, it is confusing to document that the default value of $wgStylePath is "{$wgScriptPath}/skins", because this is not (yet?) the case in LocalSettings.php, unless one explicitly assigns that value to the variable. I really hope that either this gets "fixed" or the documentation is clarified. Thank you.

Yes, you are right. Ideally one should do this. But I don't think this is a possibility right now at our place and that's why we need to come up with a workaround. One of the benefits of using a open source system like mediawiki is that we can customize it to make it fit into the system. swf files

All, We here have written $wgFileExtensions[] = 'swf'; on LocalSettings.php what is extremely useful for us to run adobe captvate files. In fact, we run the swf files after accessing the page of the uploaded file and not from the page that the link was embedded. We could go further, running the swf from the article page itself if there is an extension that does that. Does anyone know if there is such an extension? FCKeditor and Mediawiki embedding disappears

Versions Mediawiki:1.15.1 FCKeditor: 2.6.4 When you add an image to a page and then you edit the size of the page it reverts the image back to the original imported size if you edit the page using the FCKeditor. If you have the rich text editor off you can resize an image and save it and it will keep the change. But if you turn the rich text editor on and try to edit the page it will resize the image back to the original size. Please help me with this issue. I can recreate this issue in our staging and production environment. I also see this issue in my personal wiki with the same version but it is running on Linux. It happens with any embedding. we found it removes the embedding from the image. For example if you add an image with wikieditor with this code: [[Image:myfile.jpg|left|150px]] then open it in FCKeditor and save it with or without editing the page. The code will change to this: [[Image:myfile.jpg]] I feel this is a major issue and show be looked at ASAP. I run Mediawiki on Windows and a on Linux and on both instances this happens. Tim C.
