Hi,
I'm new to wikimedia and I have a few questions about modifying and
designing skins:
1) Are the interfaces for the Skin/SkinTemplate class families
documented anywhere?
2) Do the Skin interfaces actually provide any facilities for
abstracting page design? Looking at MonoBook.php, all of the work seems
to be done in the execute method, and it looks like pretty standard
html/php/css - there doesn't seem to be a particular wikimedia code
idiom.
3) Is there perhaps an existing skin with a more transparent design I
might use for study and modification?
Thank you,
Jay
I'm having the following problem on 1.8.3 and 1.10, but not on 1.9.3
(only tried once on the latter two, many times on 1.8.3).
When I use importDump.php to import a page that includes the text
[SERVER], it seems like I initially get http:/localhost instead
of http://$wgServerName. But this only occurs on the first load, and
it is corrected if I do an edit on the page.
Anyone else seen this? Any ideas about why it's happening and how to
fix it?

Hi,
When using the dumps that Wikipedia provides on our own wiki, is
there any policy one should follow to state that the content was
taken from the Wikipedia dumps ?
Saying in the footer something like... "Some content is from the
Wikipedia dumps and all text is available under the terms of the GNU
Free Documentation License" will sufice or is there a wikipedia
article that explains what one should do ? Do we have to list the
site/project somewhere ?
Thanks.
By default the text of the leftmost of the action tabs at
the top of the content area show the name of the namespace
in all lower case. Is it possible to change this text for
custom namespaces? I'd preferably have it say
" article", but "article" as in the
Main namespace would be an improvement too. Since the names
of custom namespaces in our project are language names and
the site language is English the all-lowercasing is
particularly unfortunate!
TIA,
/BP
Greetings wiki gurus
We have been using the <gallery> tags to create psudo photo org charts
on our company wiki. I was wondering if anyone knows how to change the
default settings of this feature to allow 5 pictures per row instead of
just 4. If anyone knows where to look or could throw me a link on how
to manage this feature it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks for the tip :)

I've now created a test site for a semantic MediaWiki that lets you
put the triple (x,R,y) anywhere, not just on page x:
http://semarbtri.kgprog.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
The code is available:
http://semarbtri.kgprog.com/SemArbTri.txt
The syntax for a triple is "x::R::y" (or just "R::y" if you're
already on page x).
Broken things I'd like help with:
% When editing an existing page, all the semantic info vanishes. Compare:
http://semarbtri.kgprog.com/wiki/index.php/The_Light_Fantastichttp://semarbtri.kgprog.com/wiki/index.php?title=The_Light_Fantastic&action…
The first page has semantic info, the second doesn't. My extension
does have a "in edit mode, don't display semantic data" comment + some
supporting code, but commenting out this code doesn't help.
% When editing a new page, semantic info is visible, but unformatted:
http://semarbtri.kgprog.com/wiki/index.php?title=Wizard&action=edit
% If I try to protect against spammers by adding this to LocalSettings.php:
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;
the semantic info disappears when you're viewing new (non-existent)
pages. I've commented this setting out for now (so I can't give an
example page of where this happens), but I'd like to get this fixed.
% Minor: my code breaks the "nowiki" tag (so the main page says
"((x::R::y))" instead of "x::R::y" when giving an example)
% Minor: weird empty semantic triple at the bottom of some pages:
http://semarbtri.kgprog.com/wiki/index.php/Troll
(am I doing the MySQL SELECT wrong?)
% These are the "big" errors. There are many smaller errors + lots of
features I want to add.
Any volunteers? No CVS or anything yet (the sf.net page is not
up-to-date), but please send suggestions/code improvements.

From "the script will detect existing MediaWiki tables, and upgrade
their schema" i understand it will. You have done a backup before
upgrading, haven't you?
Sound like my post was not complete, here's again
Not sure if my subject is correct, but here's my problem
I try to write a parser function, which return html code ( see below why I use
parser function).
The function receive template variables that create and return an
html form. In this form returned, I have a small javascript that
contains "&". All the & are converted by & which break the html
code.
>From http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extending_wiki_markup#Parser_functions
I could use a return statement with flag like isHTML and noparse, but
I can't seem to find any way to have the "&" not converted. I try to
return my code in single quote, without success.
Is this a normal behavior, or there is a way to avoid this situation.
I initially try to write a xml style extention instead, again called
from the template, but I can't send template variable to it , they are
not expanded. This would also fix my problem if I could send
variables, but this doesn't seem to work with template. Is it also an
expected behavior, or the PEBKAC
Thank
