Hello, I want to modify my page layout so that an article are divided into sections, each with a heading that can't be modified (like "main article," "main points" and "sources"). Each article section should then have an "edit" tab. What is the best way to accomplish this? I have been trying to do this myself and looking everywhere but can't seem to find and answer. any help appreciated! Linus --------------------------------- Be a better Globetrotter. importImages.php and duplicate images

would something bad happen if I modified importImages.php so that an image is copied even if it is already existent? If this works, should I call recordUpload() on duplicates [e.g. are information like image geometry inserted in the database because of this call]? The plan is to rsynch my local image directory where drawings are created and modfied and then using ssh for remotely execute this modified script on the host. I'll be the only creator of images, so I'm not worried of conflicts with other people's images. Thanks, Maurizio

Version 0.6 fixes some bugs and adds some new features. * In the Special page display of the table, some template expansion is now done via Parser->preprocess() ... this may actually be a bad idea, but I'm experimenting with it. * Sites using the extension can now customize the "Create Table Here" link text to change depending on the template used. Selective information displayed for logged user

Hi, Is there any way to display information in a wiki page only if a user is logged in. The long story. On my main page, I'd like to have specific information displayed only if the user is logged in. I wonder if there is any way to use some "ParserFunctions" to check if we have a logged user or a guest. {{ #if loggedUser ..... There is the isLoggedIn check that I could do from an extension, but I would rather prefer to not rely on extension Thank

need some help with editing

I did search the archives but didn't find anything helpful. Of course, I may have gone about that badly, in any case... I get an error page with the following: Method Not Implemented POST to /wiki/index.php not supported. when I try to save or preview the following text during an edit: == Modify an existing user name == * ssh to xxxxx.marmot.org (999.999.999.999) * su - * vi /etc/passwd (chg username and home dir) * vi /etc/shadow (chg username) * cd /var/spool/mail * mv <OLDNAME> <NEWNAME> * cd /home * mv <OLDNAME> <NEWNAME> * vi /etc/groups (chg group name, if applicable) * exit (or ^D) * notify appropriate person via phone or prior email. The problem appears to be related to the forward slash, but the pattern of what fails and what works isn't consistent. Sometimes a single slash causes the problem and sometimes not, but then a second slash causes the problem again... When I remove this text all is good again. I'm confused and dismayed... Can anyone straighten me out on this? Hello, I'm using mediawiki version 1.10.0. It seams the script maintenance/changeuser.sql doesn't work. The structure of the table "user" is not OK. I see that there is a patch on bugzilla from a couple of years ago for bug 3188. The patch is supposed to allow users who are not signed in to use the default search settings in $wgNamespacesToBeSearchedDefault. Anyone have experience with this? Any chance of getting it added to the main distribution? For my wikis, searching Category as well as Main by default would be good. Second wiki installation

I'm having a bit of a problem with a second Wiki installation. So far, I've managed to get the tables created and to log in, however, I cannot edit or create any pages. I always get the same message: "This page has been locked to prevent editing; there are a number of reasons why this may be so, please see Project:Protected page. You can view and copy the source of this page: " I'm logged in as a Bureaucrat and have all the group permissions set to TRUE, so I don't understand why it won't let me do anything. My other installation is working just fine. Both are v1.6.10. I've tried purging the cache but still have the same problem. I thought maybe the Wiki wasn't seeing me as the Bureaucrat, but it allows me to edit User Rights, so that can't be it. What have I missed? Sandy

Go to includes/Linker.php. there's a function getInternalLinkAttributes() Add the target="_blannk" attribute to that function. Similarly you can do for external links and interwiki links. (see the functions just above that). But a mail address is just input and the justice isn't being confirmed. I want to use the authentication function by the mail address to confirm the user's new justice. I looked for a manual and a FAQ, but I couldn't find that there is such function. css changes

I have played with some css to change text size and line spacing for when I want to project a page for my class. The monobook.css looks like this: p { font-size: 150%; line-height: 250%; } h1,h2,h3,h4,li {font-size: 150%;} This works but I'd like to limit the changes in appearance to just the article, or body or content area. I've looked at the html source and I see that the <div tag has disfferent classes and id's Is there a way to limit the .css modifications to the content area?

ProtectSection update && New C Style WIki Includes Extension

I should've noted it before but there are 2 newthings/updates. There was a bug in the ProtectSection extension. One line caused a PHP error which stopped people without permissions from using the newsection ability. I modified the code on http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ProtectSection to fix it. I also switched it to use of Source instead of pre because people who were copying it from the page instead of from the edit box ended up with a bug which made the <protect></protect> tags not stripped out from the page display. I also created an extension for external includes. It was inspired of an amusing userpage, but it allows for something I haven't seen before, WikiText includes. Meaning that you can use an include on the raw output of a page, and have the WikiText included and parsed locally (Scary Transclusions are parsed remotely). I'm considering extending the extension later on to accept interwiki links or some other type of links. But for now it just does urls. To protect from XSS attacks the HTML includes can only be added by those with proper permissions. Moving user accounts among wikis

I think this has been asked before but I can't seem to find the answer. I have a bunch of wikis on two different servers. I want users of wiki A to get the same usernames, passwords, etc on wiki B, in addition to having users who are only on wiki B. Can I just do an sql dump from the user table of wiki A and import the data into the user table of wiki B? I mean, I know I can do it, but will it have the desired effect? Hey, I upgraded from 1.8.2 to 1.10 and my Special:Version page comes up empty. Any ideas why and how to fix it? MW: 1.10 MySQL Server 5.0 PHP5 Apache 2.2.4 Windows 2003 SP1 I checked the Apache error log and I get the following entry: (20024)The given path misformatted or contained invalid characters: Cannot map GET /wiki/index.php/Special:Specialpages HTTP/1.1 to file I researched this error and found a couple of posts regarding this maybe being an issue with Apache on Windows and an issue around colons in the URL. All the other special pages are working, so I am not convinced yet that this is the issue. How to completely remove corner Main Page link?

Howdy. I've removed the image in the upper left corner (that has the logo and links to the main page). Removing the image, however, still leaves behind an invisible box which still links to the main page. This 'box' gets in the way of clicking on any other links that may be within the ~200x200 box. I have a feeling this box is defined in one of the style sheets but Ill be damned if I know where. Can anyone point me to the right location? Media Wiki just stopped working

We run four instances of MediaWiki on our website. Two of the installations have been down for months and the other two are working fine. We've generally had few problems with MediaWiki software other than the standard spam headaches. I upgraded the software on 3 of the wikis last night with no problems. Strangely enough, the upgrade worked for one of the wikis which is down. But I can't get the wiki to display anything at all. http://www.infoshop.org/octo/matrix/index.php I've checked the paths in the LocalSettings.php file. They look fine. I even compared them to another LocalSettings file for a wiki that works. I just can't figure out why this wiki is displaying a mysterious Server Error page when the other wikis are working. We upgraded to PHP 5 recently, but these two wikis went down before that. Have people had any experiences with hackers or spammers bringing down a wiki by inserting bad data? Wiki on a CD?

Hi all, Our research project has published the bulk its documentation on a wiki and would like to distribute this information for archival purposes on CD without losing internal images, links, etc. Has anyone has attempted to run a wiki off of this type of removable media, especially for various platforms (PC, Mac, and Unix)? It seems as if this is similar to the "wiki on a stick" concept and could possibly work. Any advice is regarding this issue is greatly appreciated. Change User_Options

Hi, I like to manipulate the user options of some users belonging to a certain user group via database access or maybe cloning the setting of a standard user. What I found so far is a description on how to alter the setting of the user options -- update user set user_options=replace(.. -- but I could not find a description on how to add certain options. Any help available? Kind regards Albert Cremer P. S. Why is the mySql command line tool able to show the user options in plain text whereas other tools (e. g. SQLDeveloper) are not?

Img auth. php checks referer?

Is there an option in Img auth.php where we can allow only the wiki to use an image, and disallow external sites from leeching on traffic? Hi I'm trying to code my own MediaWiki extnsion (or rather, heavily mofdifying and existing one), and was wondering how I could dynamically, within the php code, retrieve a list of all pages in a certain namespace so that I can then process them? Cheers Keir Lawson

Custom tags in wysiwyg-editor

Hi, I'm using the FCK-Editor extension for integration of wysiwyg in some articles of my wiki. The problem I have now is that my mainpage does not render custom tags like <dpl> correctly. If i write them in FCK-Editor they are displayed as text in the article. Writing the dpl-tag into the code-view of FCK-Editor displays me a white page after saving the article. The parsing of the dpl-tag in normal editmode (wikisyntax) works fine... So does anybody know how to get FCK-Editor to parse my custom tags correctly? No text in this page search

I'm looking throughout my Wiki to see what necessary pages have not yet been made for whatever reason. I notice that these pages all contain the text "There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page." but when I try to search for that phrase or part of it, it returns a ton of results that include partial matches-- like the word "in" or words that contain "no." Is there any way to find the pages? They're not showing up in the Wanted Pages list, namely because it's not that they're referenced from other pages (in the case of project pages), but just that they would contain "no text." How do I find all those pages? -Azurite

Thanks to everyone who replied. Answers to questions: % I originally tried to integrate this into Semantic MediaWiki, but the code there seems very "page-centric". There doesn't seem to be a concept of an arbitrary tuple. I'm sure this could be integrated into Semantic MediaWiki (and since both are open source, anyone is welcome to try), but I found it easier to write something separate. I'd definitely like to get a lot of Semantic MediaWiki's features, either by merging it into my code or vica versa. % If you put [[x::R::y]] on page z: S Page is correct. You can edit the tuple on page z only. It will be displayed read-only on both pages x and y. However, the display on x and y will tell you that z created the tuple, so you know where to go to edit it. % I'd really like to get the table data looking nicer (eg, using Exhibits), though I'd prefer something more server-side than client-side (not sure JSON/JavaScript is that universally supported browser-side?) % I'd like to get a little more done (in terms of bug fixes + formatting) before "officially" announcing this at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_Matrix -- We're just a Bunch Of Regular Guys, a collective group that's trying to understand and assimilate technology. Skinning Guidelines

Hi, I'm new to wikimedia and I have a few questions about modifying and designing skins: 1) Are the interfaces for the Skin/SkinTemplate class families documented anywhere? 2) Do the Skin interfaces actually provide any facilities for abstracting page design? Looking at MonoBook.php, all of the work seems to be done in the execute method, and it looks like pretty standard html/php/css - there doesn't seem to be a particular wikimedia code idiom. 3) Is there perhaps an existing skin with a more transparent design I might use for study and modification? importDump.php and {{SERVER}}

I'm having the following problem on 1.8.3 and 1.10, but not on 1.9.3 (only tried once on the latter two, many times on 1.8.3). When I use importDump.php to import a page that includes the text [{{SERVER}}], it seems like I initially get http:/localhost instead of http://$wgServerName. But this only occurs on the first load, and it is corrected if I do an edit on the page. Anyone else seen this? Stating the Free Documentation License regarding wikipedia dumps

Hi, When using the dumps that Wikipedia provides on our own wiki, is there any policy one should follow to state that the content was taken from the Wikipedia dumps ? Saying in the footer something like... "Some content is from the Wikipedia dumps and all text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License" will sufice or is there a wikipedia article that explains what one should do ? Do we have to list the site/project somewhere ? Thanks.

Changing the text of the content page tab for custom namespaces

By default the text of the leftmost of the action tabs at the top of the content area show the name of the namespace in all lower case. Is it possible to change this text for custom namespaces? I'd preferably have it say "{{ucfirst:{{NAMESPACE}}}} article", but "article" as in the Main namespace would be an improvement too. Since the names of custom namespaces in our project are language names and the site language is English the all-lowercasing is particularly unfortunate! TIA, /BP

Hacking the <gallery>

Greetings wiki gurus We have been using the <gallery> tags to create psudo photo org charts on our company wiki. I was wondering if anyone knows how to change the default settings of this feature to allow 5 pictures per row instead of just 4.
