hi =) I'm going to explain my question, I think that way is clearer I have created an article "cat" and I want all the "cat" words in the whole wiki link to that article. There's a way to do that? (not manually of course =P) Thanks!

edit tag placement

Hi all, after upgrading to 1.11 I realised that 'edit' tag is placed in the left-most part of section label [1]. I wonder how to changed it, I prefer to see 'edit' on the right side as usual. Importing Templates

Hello to the List, I am wondering if anyone knows of a way or has experience with "batch" importing templates (like from Wikipedia). I have used the import and export Special Pages with standardized pages, but unfortunately I haven't been able to do it with Templates. There are a number of Templates that require other Templates to properly run and it is extremely time consuming to have to create, cut and paste, the code one page at a time. For example: if I want to copy the Template:Navbox/core, there are a number of other associated Templates that I must also make and copy in order for the Template to work properly. Does anyone know of a way to copy or import multiple Templates at once? Thank you very much in advance for your thoughts and help. Best wishes, Christopher Merwin

Interlinking: can't indicate "iw_url" using phpMyAdmin

Hi all, I'm preparing a wiki site with several languages (all v1.11). All single wikis work fine individually, installations are ok, no error reports (see http://www.iustitia.com/wiki/environment_ok.png). All wikis use the same db with different table prefixes (es_, en_, de_, etc.). But there is one single step that drives me crazy. As the site is being hosted on a shared hosting, I ONLY have access to MySQL via phpMyAdmin. These tutorials (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Wiki_family, http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help_talk:Interwiki_linking, http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Interwiki_linking, http://www.steverumberg.com/wiki/index.php/WikiHelp) indicate that I must insert a new row by clicking on "interwiki", then on "Browse", then on "Insert", filling in these 2 "Values": - iw_prefix = the language prefix. Example: "es" for spanish, "de" for german, etc. - iw_url = the URL to the sister project. Example: http://www.iustitia.com/wiki/es/index.php/$1 But there resides my problem! I CANNOT indicate any URL at "iw_url", because its "Type" is set to "BLOB" and not to "varchar(32)" as it supposed to be (?). See http://www.iustitia.com/wiki/mysql_iw_url_blob.png Other users had the same problem (see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help_talk:Interwiki_linking#Database_Blob) but the link they were provided with is not solving this issue (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Guide_for_system_administrators_for_set…). So, my questions are: 1) How can I indicate the URL using phpMyAdmin (please remember that I do not have telnet access to the server)? 2) Do I have to indicate something in the column "Function" (by default its empty)? Operating system: Linux Kernel: 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp Apache: 1.3.37 (Unix) PERL: 5.8.8 PHP: 5.2.1 MySQL: 4.1.22-standard Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Zelula

Changing database subsystem

Hello all, I'm in the process of moving an already productive Mediawiki with many users and articles to another host. (Mediawiki version is 1.10.1, I will upgrade to the newest release after the move). I've read the article at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Moving_a_wiki, and it seems that moving the wiki is quite simple, as long as I use the same version on both systems. But, there's a little problem: I'd also like to change the database backend from mySQL to PostgreSQL (I know that mySQL is as good as Postgres, but using it is not an option anymore, since my company's policy is to use and support PostgreSQL and only PostgreSQL in the future, and no other free RDBMS). So, the big question is, how can I move the database content from mySQL to Postgres? Of course I can simple dump the wiki in XML, and re-import it into the new system, but as far as I understand, this would mean that all user logins, logging informations, atc. are lost, right? Is there a quick and simple way to do it? I've already searched the manual, the FAQ and the mailinglist archives, without success... Any help is greatly appreciated! New parser in the works - please help

http://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikitext-l Wikitext-l was formed from a recent discussion on wikitech-l about the need to sanely reimplement the current parser, which is a Horrible Mess and pretty much impossible to reimplement in another language. The MediaWiki parser definition is literally "whatever the PHP parser does." Some of what it does is arguably very wrong, pathological, magical or just a Stupid Parser Trick. So the list has been formed to come up with a grammar that defines all the useful parts of the present parser, and so can be used by anyone to implement a MediaWiki wikitext parser. This will be useful for other software, for WYSIWYG editing extensions ... all manner of things. Some of what some people would think of as a "stupid parser trick" is in fact important - e.g. L'''uomo'' which renders as L<i>uomo</i> (necessary for French and Italian). So: we need to know what MediaWiki quirks are supporting important constructs in languages other than English (which is the language the list is in, and is the native language of most of the participants), and particularly in non-European languages. This list is unlikely to implement new features, e.g. (an example brought up by GerardM) the double-apostrophe in Neapolitan. But we really need to know about present important features that wouldn't be obvious to an English-speaker going through the present parser code. - d.

Period for logs

Hi, Upto what period Mediawiki will store the logs in database? Is there a setting for that? I would like to keep my logs for, say 1 year. How can I do that? How do uninstall the software

A couple of years ago I installed a test wiki and sort of let it drop when I couldn't get interest from others. Now I want to try again. I need to deletele the old version for which I have lost my install notes and install version 1.11 and start over. How do I remove a wiki and all its pieces? .....Brian

setHook with parameters?

$wgParser->setHook('foo', 'bar') says to call function bar() when you see the tag <foo>. Is there a way to tell setHook to pass parameters to bar()? That is, when the parser sees tag <foo>, it should call bar('a', 'b', 'c')? DanB
