Hi!
I am just trying to get started with media wiki. I used WAMP 1.6.6 to get a
packaged version of Apache, PHP, and MySQL going and have also downloaded
MediaWiki 1.8.2 I have been able to configure things so that I now have
MediaWiki running seamlessly on my desktop <http:/localhost/mywiki>.
I would like to port this to my website and I am not sure exactly how this
would work. Also I am keen on ensuring synchronization between my remote
(website) and local versions so things stay backedup and I can pretty much
work on it all the time.
I am hoping someone here can point me to docs, resources, or send me
pointers on how to get going to do this. My problem is I am also pretty much
of newbie on everything in WAMP suite and dont have ideas.
Also, I was wondering if the mediawiki list is searchable, and what the
website for that is.
thank you,
alnuddy

That's correct. Add the JavaScript snippet right before the "</head>" section of /skins/MonoBook.php. You should probably add it to any other skins that you allow your users to select. Google Analytics works just as expected if you install it like this.

Maybe on the skins (eg. MonoBook.php).

Hi,I'm trying to figure out where I can add the little snippet of code that a web statistics site like google analytics provides, to track visitor usage of the site. Should it be somewhere in the footer? Would appreciate if someone else has found where to add it to.Thanks.

Hello again
I had a look at some of the PHP scripts in the includes-Directory today
and did manage to "hack" the column listing of category pages to
display section titles with two instead of one char.
My customer has another wish: He would not only like to have links to
the corresponding pages of a category, but also to have their whole
body included in the category page.
Question: Which object/function do I have to call to get the body of an
article (similar to the manual way {{:article}}) rendered as HTML?
Article::view() seems to be a candidate, although I fear it would be a
real mess to make it work that way.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Kind regards
Mario

I had the same 500 server error a few weeks back and I eventually heard from
2 other people that were having the same problem. Turns out that all 3 of us
were using HostMonster.com as our hosting service (overall, I had been very
happy with them up to this point).
Steve Jones found the following reference, look up item #153 on that list of
issues at:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Support_desk
....he tried it and it solved his problem. I had already switched hosts at
that point so I have not yet tried it myself. Are you using HostMonster.com?

I tried this out, but then I needed to login in order to see any
article...is there any other possibility, or did I do something wrong?
Thanks a lot and best regards,

Hello,
I run an internal MediaWiki wiki for our company, and we're now looking at
using the software to develop a public wiki for our customers. What my
future team of public wiki admins would like, however, is for each Article
to include a blog-like Comments tool (comments form, and comments posts, all
on the Article page) to encourage public discussion of each Article. They
do not like the Discussion tab option because it breaks the conversation
flow.
Has anyone successfully used any type of plug-in for this type of feature?
Or do you have other suggestions?
The other side of this request, is that they would like anyone (not just
registered users) to be able to Comment, and for those Comments to be able
to sit in a moderation queue for approval.... in other words, exactly what
blogs do with Comments.
Thank you!

When I login into Mediawiki, I get a blank screen. When i change any
variable in the url, i'm logged into mediawiki and everything seems to
work fine.
Anyone familiar with this problem?
I'm using IIS on windows2000, mediawiki 1.6.8., php 4.x and mysql 4.x
You would make al lot of people here happy with the right answer.
Thanx, Arthur van de Graaf
Thanks Taylor.
Of course I have sql backups of my (previously working) MW182 and MW15
databases.
The problem is that if I upgrade from the MW15 or if I reinstall MW
using the MW182 backup, the MW installation is broken. Pages are
either empty, or result in a "500 internal server error".
So, some of the tables must be inconsistent. Anyone who know how to
check table consistency in MW?
If I run the php maintenance scripts (upgrade.php), I get errors
unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR
Backup are not exactly useful, if they can't be used for restore :-)

This message is to inform all of those unfortunate folk out there like
myself who have had so much trouble trying to get the MathTex rendering
engine up and going. My server didn't have OCaml installed, so I couldn't
compile the texvc executable. After many days of frustration, I found an
answer! (I can't say it'll work for everyone but it's worth a try...)
Go to http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Enable_TeX and follow the directions.
If you don't have ocaml (try typing "ocaml" into your server's shell client)
then here's a simple solution (hopefully): Download the texvc program from
the wiki project
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=34373&package_id=1116…
place it in the /wiki/math folder. Then follow the rest of the
directions and cross your fingers.
