including images
by Ricardo Rodríguez 07 Dec '06

07 Dec '06

Hi all, I've tried to find an answer to this apparently simple question to no avail. Please, could you help me? Is this possible to include an image in a wiki article without uploading the file to the concerned server? For instance, could I include this simple graph http://environmentalchange.net/mediawiki/ images/d/d9/Carbon.png in a wiki article hosted in a different server? Of course I know how to insert the link, but I would like to show the graph. As far as I know, <img> HTML tag is not currently allowed. Any idea will be welcome! Thanks for your help, -- Ricardo Rodríguez XEN, Resources Management

LaTeX math support
by beachboy22＠verizon.net 07 Dec '06

07 Dec '06

Hello all, I have a Wiki set up and am wondering how to enable LaTex math support so that when I place a formula insite the "<math>" and "</math>" codes it shows up. My Wiki is being hosted by SiteGround.com so it is not my own server. I understand that I have to get some executable named texvc into my math directory. I have tired reading http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Enable_TeX, but as I am new to hosting I did not entirely understand it. I installed Objective Caml, and Cygwin on my local Windows comp. What else do I need and how do I use all this to enable the Tex math support? Thanks a lot.

Save and preview broken?
by Eccentric 67 06 Dec '06

My wiki has been fine for months. I now get this error when I try to save or preview an edit. +++++++++++++++++++++++ A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was: (SQL query hidden) from within function "Title::isDeleted". MySQL returned error "1146: Table 'horsewiki.horse_archive' doesn't exist (localhost)". +++++++++++++++++++++++ My versioning is: MediaWiki <http://www.mediawiki.org/>: 1.8.2 PHP <http://www.php.net/>: 5.1.6 (apache2handler) MySQL <http://www.mysql.com/>: 5.0.20a-max-log The only reference I have found mentions running "php -cli ./maintenance/update.php" which I did successfully during the last upgrade but it now shows this: "...page_namespace is already a full int (int(11)). A database query syntax error has occurred. The last attempted database query was: "SHOW COLUMNS FROM `horse_archive` LIKE 'ar_namespace'" from within function "". MySQL returned error "1146: Table 'horsewiki.horse_archive' doesn't exist (localhost)" Does anyone have an idea about this? -- Best regards, Michael --------------------------------- Cheap Talk? embedded pdf documents
by Taylor Ralston 06 Dec '06

06 Dec '06

I wish there was a nice and pretty way to embed a PDF document into the body of the wiki article. I was able to do it eventually by setting the $wgRawHtml = true. Then I could use <html><embed src="..."></embed></html>. It worked, but is kind of clunky, plus it warns about security issues. Has anyone seen yet an extension to do this? I Imagine maybe a div tag or even a floating layer (confined by the wiki article box, of course). I would like to have part of an article have text/analysis while being able to see the PDF original source of the information side by side. I know it's asking a lot, but hey - it seems nothing is impossible these days, just difficult.

issues with ldap authentication mw 1.8.2
by Isaac Gonzalez 05 Dec '06

05 Dec '06

It works fine to log me in using my ad username/username password. However, when saving a page, intermittently I get a windows login prompt, which accepts my ad user/password. I would prefer to only authenticate once to the wiki. Here is my ldap code in localsettings.php: /* Ldap Authentication */ require_once( "includes/LdapAuthentication.php" ); $wgAuth = new LdapAuthenticationPlugin(); $wgLDAPDomainNames = array( "MYDOMAIN" ); $wgLDAPServerNames = array( " MYDOMAIN "=>"dc1.mydomain.com" ); //$wgLDAPSearchStrings = array( " MYDOMAIN "=>" MYDOMAIN \\USER-NAME" ); $wgLDAPSearchAttributes = array( " MYDOMAIN "=>"sAMAccountName" ); $wgLDAPBaseDNs = array( " MYDOMAIN "=>"dc=mydomain,dc=com" ); $wgLDAPProxyAgent = "cn=aduser,ou=Services,ou=Users ,dc=mydomain,dc=com"; $wgLDAPProxyAgentPassword = "Mypassword"; //You should also be able to use a hash! $wgLDAPUseSSL = false; //not recommended but OK for testing $wgLDAPUseLocal = true; $wgMinimalPasswordLength = 1; $wgLDAPRetrievePrefs = false; $wgLDAPAddLDAPUsers = false; $wgLDAPUpdateLDAP = false; $wgLDAPMailPassword = false; I'm using iis 5 webserver/php 5.1.2/my domain is windows server 2003. Any help would be appreciated. -Isaac Isaac Gonzalez Systems Administrator AutoReturn Phone: (415)575-2359 Fax: (415)575-2379

<pre> and <nowiki> don't work in templates
by Adam Nielsen 05 Dec '06

05 Dec '06

Hi everyone, I'm trying to use the <pre> tag inside a template, but it's not quite working the way I expected it would. If I put something like this in a template: <pre>{{{1}}}</pre> Then when I use that template on a page, the actual "{{{1}}}" is printed instead of the template's first argument. The same thing happens with the <nowiki> tag. Is there some other way you're meant to use these tags within templates? Thanks, Adam.

Hello all, Sorry about the barrage of questions, but I have a pretty demanding user group. Is there a way to black a specific user against a specific page? Thanks. Philip B.
