I distinctly remember there was a way to add a title to a special page simply by entering in a URL, then adding the title to the wiki edit field, and then saving. The new "writing a new special page" how-to is very confusing - and it wants me to write PHP to get the title to show up. There was an easier way... I can't find this how-to anywhere- though I'm sure it used to exist. FX can you walk me through how you've added a wiki page title to a special page? I just figured out how to build a new special page which is like the Uncategorized pages page, but looks at the Image namespace. Multiple languages

Morning! I am building a web site for a family member who is in the process of completing a PhD and MediaWiki looks like the ideal CMS to use as they will be able to update their own web site (delegation is always important :-) Two questions: 1) There may be a need to have certain pages in multiple languages. Is the best way to do this for a small site is to add a language identifier to the page title eg: here is the CV in [[CV.en|English]] or in [[CV.nl|Dutch]]. Is there a way to do this and still have a more readable title eg "English CV" rathern than "CV.en"? 2) I see from the LocalSettings.php that it is possible to prevent access to certain pages for users who are not logged in. Do I need to list all the pages I want blocked or is it possible to do wildcards eg internal* TIA James

The advice in the subject line is correct. Users should never be deleted from the table for another reason; you leave a lot of messy references to them lurking about which really does confuse the hell out of the software. MediaWiki does not support the deletion of users, and likely never will. Rob Church

Getting started - echo type stuff disabled?

I downloaded and installed Mediawiki 1.5.5 a few days ago, and have been having a look. I have pretty good experience in PHP, but it's my first look at Mediawiki. One of the biggest things I have noticed is: a) echo, doesn't b) if I try and create my own "test_wiki.php" file calling wiki functions/methods, I get I think errors but all that is displayed on the screen is a complete blank I suppose these things are basically the same thing. Is "echo" disabled? Is there some other global setting I haven't seen which is stopping output to the screen? Is there some magic constant that I have to set to get debug output (I have found $wgDebugLogFile, $wgDebugRedirects, $wgDebugRawPage, $wgDebugComments, $wgReadOnly, $wgLogQueries, $wgDebugDumpSql but they don't seem to help much). share images between different Wikis

hello, at the beginning, my english is not very well. I've two different wikis (a German & an Italian WIki), they are connected via interwiki links. These Wikis have a CommonSettings.php. How I can use images for the German and Italian Wiki at the same time? Announcing Graphviz and Associated Extensions

I have two new extensions to through into the mix: 1) Graphviz embedding extension. It generates Graphviz (http://www.graphviz.org) images from embedded markup. Although one already exists, I couldn't find the source code, so I wrote a new one. 2) Graph generating SpecialPage. This extension allows you to query your wiki for both XML and Graphviz markup of subsets of your wiki. As an added bonus, the content can be transparently included in pages so dynamic graphs (images) of relations can be generated. The extensions can be downloaded from http://opensource.case.edu/projects/MediaWikiHacks/ A live example of these extensions is the Case Western Reserve University Wiki (http://wiki.case.edu). Some links of interest are: http://wiki.case.edu/Special:Graphs http://wiki.case.edu/Category:Staff http://wiki.case.edu/Category:ITS_Employees http://wiki.case.edu/CaseWiki:Categories As you can see, for all smaller category pages, a graph of the category layout is automatically generated. How do i access my raw data if I can't move my wiki?

Hi, I created about a dozen wikis to use as: - draft websites - info storage After doing a big delete-the c drive-and-start-over, I've found it too difficult atm to transfer the files to a new set of wikis. But there's certain data I really need from the old files. Does anyone know how i can read the raw data in my old wikis? Really appreciate the help cos this data is quite important to me! Thanks.

Hi all, I am trying to create a google map of my site, but after trying the following instructions, I got this error message listed bellow: ---- I've just follow those steps: 1) Copy the contents of http://wiki.case.edu/misc/googleSiteMap.phps to a php file in the base MediaWiki directory. 2) Confirm it works 3) Submit a link to this php script to the Google Sitemaps service 4) Wait ---- But I get this error message: XML Parsing Error: xml declaration not at start of external entity Location: http://mysite.com/wiki/googleSiteMap.php Line Number 3, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> ^ ---- any help would be must appreciated. thanks a lot, mauro. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. profiling table?

I have installed mediawiki 1.5.5, but the database which gets created does not seem to have a "profiling" table, nor can I see any such table in the "maintanence/tables.sql" file. So, where is this table defined/created? Thanks. Hugh Prior
