Hi all,
I'm just playing with mediawiki 1.4.5, downloaded archive of this
list, checked faq, and didn't found answer to question:
it is possible to setup wiki, so URL:
mydomain.com/wiki/Some_article -> some_article.mydomain.com
I tried to hack that a bit, but I was unsuccesful. Tried change also
case in db, setup apache to handle all those domains and so on, but I
get only redirects...
Could anyone tell me if:
1. this is possible
2. how to do that :)
Thanks a lot, good people!
So I got around to installing MediaWiki 1.5b1 on my test server and it
looks really fantastic. The fine-grained user groups will make it
easier to give exceptional users extra features such as the ability to
protect pages without also giving them the ability to go rogue and
delete everything. :)
However, my two top level groups were 18 and 22 characters long. Is
there any way that the maximum amount of characters could be increased,
perhaps to 32?
Basically, the full group names show up on the Userrights editor, but
once assigned, they are truncated to 16 characters and since that
truncated group does not exist, the user only gets the global rights
defined in the array.
Also, even though they are a member of that truncated group name, it
does not show up in the userrights page to allow removal. In all other
regards, it seems to work great.
Should I file a bug report?

Hello,
Is there an easy way to reset the popular pages counters? Could be
a great way to see whats being accessed without having to trawl
through the web server logs.

James
We have a requirement to put together a collaborative environment, which
will be populated with content that our viewers might like to print out in
pdf. The content will be organized into categories, and all the topics
under a category need to be printed in one pdf document.
I've taken a look at media wiki, and I think I see a way to make this
happen.
1. Use the category feature of mediawiki, to organize all the pages. (we
will have maybe 5 categories). Currently when you click on a category, you
get a list of all articles in that category. I would like to add a "Expand
All" button/link, which will expand all the articles in place, into one html
page.
2. Then it's a simple enough matter to use a htmltopdf converter for the
printing to pdf file.
I am willing to start coding this, but as I have never seen the mediawiki
codebase before, I'm wondering if anyone has any pointers, or potential
traps they see with this approach. I have read much of the information at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/How_to_become_a_MediaWiki_hacker, and would
be willing to incorporate this feature back into MediaWiki.
thoughts?

Hi All,
I have a wiki that I run to keep notes. I now have this one page that
does not update it's display, no matter how much I edit the content.
I have put it up on the www to better explain my problem. Here is the page;
http://rouble.podzone.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page/todo
If you'll notice the pages content is different from what is being
displayed. Does anyone know what is going on ? [You may edit the wiki
to test it out - but please don't remove any existing content]
I think I am running mediawiki 1.4.5 released 2005-06-03. I am running
this on debian 3.1 using php5, apache2 and mysql.
TIA,
rouble

Hi rowan,
Thanks for the info. This is what I did.
Extracted the following files to my wiki folder
1) authplugin.php
2) language.php
3) ldapauthentication.php
4) specialuserlogin.php
5) user.php
6) userlogin.php
Of the above the only changes I made were to the
lpadauthentication.php
if ( $wgLDAPUseSSL ) {
$serverpre = "ldaps://";
} else {
$serverpre = "ldap://";
}
I inserter the IP address of my ldap server into the above code.
Next I pasted the following code into the localsettings.php file ( after
entering the information for domain, server and search string )
require_once( 'LdapAuthentication.php' );
$wgAuth = new LdapAuthenticationPlugin();
$wgLDAPDomainNames = array(
"testADdomain","testLDAPdomain"
);
$wgLDAPServerNames = array(
"testADdomain"=>"testADserver.example.com",
"testLDAPdomain"=>"testLDAPserver.example.comtestLDAPserver2.example.com"
);
$wgLDAPSearchStrings = array(
"testADdomain"=>"TDOMAIN\\USER-NAME",
"testLDAPdomain"=>"uid=USER-NAME,ou=people,dc=example,dc=com"
);
$wgLDAPUseSSL = true; //Recommended!!
$wgLDAPUseLocal = true; //Allow the use of the local database as well as
the LDAP database
$wgMinimalPasswordLength = 1; #If using mediawiki 1.5. Note: 1 is the
minimum, feel free to go higher
//The following are for use in version 0.8+
$wgLDAPAddLDAPUsers = true; //if true WikiDN and WikiPassword must be
set
$wgLDAPUpdateLDAP = true; //if true WikiDN and WikiPassword must be set
These last 2 variables I did not feed information into... any idea what
they do? I just want to be able to extract username and password
information of my ldap server to authenticate users , not to allow them
to make changes on the ldap server.
$wgLDAPWikiDN = "uid=priviledgedUser,ou=people,dc=example,dc=com";
//Please use a user with limited access, NOT your directory manager
$wgLDAPWikiPassword = "{SHA}KqYKj/f81HPTIeAUav2eJt85UUc="; //You are
able to use clear text passwords, but please try not to
After I completed the above mentioned steps I tried accessing the wiki.
Now even my old user name ( on the wiki DB) does not allow me to login.
I get a blank page ).
Would appreciate any help I can get with this.... as you can see I'm
stuck..
Thanks,
AJ

Hello everybody,
I'm a newbie dummy user of MediaWiki.
I waited for the 1.5 release because I heard that in this release a more flexible rules of page editing will be available.
Perhaps they are but having installed the 1.5 beta version: http://iyapi.net/wiki I see that everybody, even unregistered reader, may edit unlocked pages.
I wonder is it possible to
1. make the pages uneditable for readers
2. make the signup of potential editors approvable by admins

Hello, I have a portal engine with a mediawiki in it. I would like it
so sign in to the portal would sign into the wiki, and registration
into the portal would register with the wiki, and vice versa. Has
anyone done this, or can you point me to the file where the wiki
signin/register code is?
thanks Erik (greenpowered.org)
Here is the same problem and the fix from a few days ago on this mailing list - I implemented it simply using apache aliases.

Note usage of $wgScript and $wgArticlePath.
