I was advised that the correct IP path is $IP = "C:\\easyphp\\www\\mediawiki";
and NOT $IP = "/mediawiki";
We have tried every possible path we could think of...
For example, by changing the path to that mentionned above, apart from first error, we also get a list of undefined variables, such as:
Notice: Undefined variable: wgMetaNamespace in
c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki\languages\Language.php on line 25
Notice: Undefined variable: wgMetaNamespace in
c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki\languages\Language.php on line 35
etc...
Hi there,
I have verified that from an IP, blocked by a sysop in it.wiki, it is
sometimes possible to create new pages and, additionally, the system
allow the blocked user to continue modifying the newly create pages.
Enclosed a couple of logs:

Hello,
I'm running a German wiki configured using latin1. Trying to use unicode
instead of latin1, all special characters like ÄÖÜ etc. are broken in the
browser (and also in the database, if I take a look into the tables via
phpmyadmin). This effect can be undone by running the setup again
configuring latin1. Not being a specialist in such things it seems to me to
be more "modern" to use unicode. Is this correct, or should I just leave
latin1. If it would make sense to convert to unicode, how can I do this?
What are the consequences of using the one or the other?
Sorry for this questions of one mainly just beeing a "user" but who also
does some things on a server. Any hint, even in the form of hyperlinks to
further reading would be appreciated.
Nikolai
Yes, I totally skipped over the math/ directory. I went ahead and
downloaded Ocaml, compiled it (set some time aside for doing that - it took
a while), then compiled texvc from the math/ directory. For some reason, it
didn't seem to take right away - maybe my page was cached - but I just
checked it again and it's displaying math! Just tried another on a new page
and it works great!
Thanks for your help!
-Jason

You need TeX packages on your server, but you also need texvc, which is
included in one of the MediaWiki plugin directories as a source
distribution. It didn't compile cleanly for me (at Dreamhost - their
server setup is a little weird sometimes), so I tried downloading this
precompiled Linux/x86 binary:
http://download.wikimedia.org/texvc-linux-x86-20040107.tar.gz
...uncompressed into the correct folder, it worked first time.
I can't remember where I came across it, but search around for 'texvc'
and you'll find copious notes.

I've already looked at the meta help pages and can't find the answers to my
questions. Would be nice to be able to search the mailing list archives,
though.
1. I can't get the <math> tags to display anything - they just display
the code I put in. I have tex packages on my system, but is there something
I'm missing that needs to parse these tags correctly?
2. Linking to categories, like [[:Category:CategoryName]], will provide
a link to that category, but it always puts the page in edit mode. Is there
something I may be doing wrong?
3. Is there wiki code to be able to open links in a new window
(external links)?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jason

Heh. Ok, I guess that makes sense. Nice to know it's available though.
Now how about my math tag problem? ;-)

No, this has generally been considered to be a Bad Idea, since this
should be up to the user and their browser-interface, rather than the
website they are viewing. (I believe shift-click, ctrl-click and the
middle mouse button allow users of some browsers to open a link in
either a new window or a new tab).
If you really really want to hack the code and insert one, you need to
look at includes/Skin.php: the function that generates ext. links is
"makeExternalLink()", or you could add it in
"getExternalLinkAttributes()"

Has anyone installed Mediawiki on Windows XP?
Windows XP displays the Read-Only attribute to a folder, even if it is really not Read-Only.
Therefore config and PHPTal folders seem to be recognized by MediaWiki as Read Only, and are not updated.
If there is anyone who has succeeded in installing Media Wiki on XP, please could help us!?
Can anybody please help us or at least direct us in the installation process of mediawiki.
Firstly we get a blank page upon attempting to configure the wiki using index.php. We therefore tried to manually configure the LocalSettings, php and AdminSettings.php files, but we received the following report:
Warning: main(/mediawiki/PHPTAL-NP-0.7.0/libs/PHPTAL.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki\includes\SkinPHPTal.php on line 32
Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '/mediawiki/PHPTAL-NP-0.7.0/libs/PHPTAL.php' (include_path='.;C:\EasyPHP\php\pear\') in c:\easyphp\www\mediawiki\includes\SkinPHPTal.php on line 32
Can anyone help?
