I infer it's not an easy task.
Also, it doesn't seem (from my humble observation) to be done often. Is that
because its not needed or because of the lack of friendly tools?
There are no good tools for any given conversion, because it's a job
that anyone is likely to do precisely once - so the knowledge doesn't
accumulate the way it would in an ongoing open-source project.
That said, whenever I hear of someone trying to convert another wiki
engine to MediaWiki - or away from MW to something else - I encourage
them to add their work to
mediawiki.org so others can build on it.
