Residing in Cuba, Roberto Gonzalez Fernandez's works have been exhibited and auctioned around the world. His painting, The Shoe Carnival, sold at a 2007 Sotheby's auction for 20,400 USD, and in 2004, a work of his was sold at a Christie's auction for 11,504 USD.

Since the very beginning, my work has always focused on man, his sorrows and joys, his universal problems, and his constant pursuit of reason. I try to build a bridge between the psychological/symbolic and the physical, striving to establish the possibility of a dialogue between man and object. The reason why objects are always oversized in my works is because I view them as the bearers of burdens of messages to my audiences. My intention is to draw viewers’ attention to the objects first, and then to have them establish a dialogue based on their point of view and experience. Working within such a framework that is in touch with reality, yet displayed on a canvas in a dreamlike manner, is why many have labeled my work as ‘surreal’, although I do not feel this to be the case. Every detail in my works is well planned and the result of conscious efforts, and almost nothing is left to chance.
