While I appreciate the jokes, they're not really helping.

So far I think Tim's suggestion is winning, because "MediaWiki API" is too vague as James said, "Web API" isn't really accurate and is also vague when the proposed REST content API is considered, and asserting that it should be the default assumption when someone says "the API" is IMO true but doesn't actually work in practice or I wouldn't have started this discussion.
