Hello
I used to be registered to that list. In fact I seem to be still registered to it. But I somehow stopped received emails from it some time ago apparently.
I am facing an issue with * My emails to various lists NOT reaching home. For example, I post to WREN mailing list but my messages are not getting there
* Or sometimes they reach home (according to others) but I never receive them myself (before you ask, yes I activated in my preferences the fact of receiving them) Someone told me my message was noted as "silent". No idea what it means
* AND some lists do not seem to have archives (for example, African-wikimedians is not showing any archives after july 2025). I wanted to check if the message actually reached the list... but there is no archives for August and September
So it seems that I have a problem (but I can not figure out which one) and it seems the archiving problem is having a problem
So I thought... let's write the Listadmin list... till the moment I realized that I have not received any messages for... over a year. Is there still a list somewhere where we can reach out with issues with lists ?
I went to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Administration
I read "A public mailing list was made to assist administrators who need to read instructions on how to create a mailing list, deal with spam, moderate troubled users and assist users who make a decision to communicate with people on other networks."
OK, where is this public mailing list though ?
Hello,
I am one of the moderators of WREN. https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/lists/wren.lists.wikimedia.org/
I cannot explain the problems you are encountering.
The steps that I thought would diagnose the problem are as follows -
- check that email address is registered as a member ✅ PASS, you are listed as a member - check that messages are not stopped in moderation queue ✅ PASS, your messages are not there - check whether I am receiving emails from you through this mailing list ✅ PASS, I actually have a WREN email from you from two days ago, 1 Sept - check whether your message is in the list archives, ✅ PASS I see it at https://lists.wikimedia.org/hyperkitty/list/wren@lists.wikimedia.org/thread/...
Florence, tell me more about your attempts to access the archives. You should be able to check there yourself about your messages going through.
thanks

Note that there are both "Global settings" https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/accounts/mailmansettings/ and "list-based preferences" which might be overriding your Global setting? https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/accounts/per-subscription-preferences/ I believe things get complicated here, because as new features have been slowly added to this very old software (started in 1999!), those of us who have really old accounts on this installation (especially anyone that was a former-list-owner) have a lot of ancient-settings that can sometimes conflict with newer features, or the settings just don't default to what we might expect. TLDR: It's worth checking *every* setting in your preferences.

As a mailman admin, I can see that that list is currently set to "Do not archive this list". You'll have to ask the list-admins ( african-wikimedians-owner@lists.wikimedia.org) if and why they changed it. [I'd guess it might've been a reaction to some spam they were getting many months ago? Or a mis-click accident?]

Hello
So I have done quite of (fairly random) toggling on preferences for the settings, including deactivating and reactivating things, just to see if that would somehow make a difference. As you say, features added on a very old software... there might be unexplained "bugs"... and maybe "re-initiating" might be helpful. So I did some toggling at the global settings, at the email level setting and at the list settings.
Nevertheless... I thought one solution that could help fix my "non distribution" issue is that I could send emails from one address and receive email to another address. In my account, two emails addresses are registered (they were merged when we moved to this system). Gmail is the primary, which is the one usually allowed to send email. But I do have a secundary email, sometimes allowed to post on some lists. And some lists still only use the secundary address.
Some lists (not all of them) registered my two email addresses as members. When it is the case, both have different distributions settings.
Now my question is... with the current system... I completely fail to see how to registerer to a mailing list from a second email address (the secundary listed in my account). When I go to registration parameters on a specific list, it only proposes one email address. How is that possible now... to register to a list from two different addresses ?
Florence
