Yes, there are a lot of mapping (which would need a review and an upadate)
and there is no {{cite}} template.
I was focused on Infobox template, as I was interested in Wikisource book metadata system to display standard book information.
More or less, the standard information is covered by the mappings, and by all different Wikisource and Infobox templates in all the Wikipedias. A standard way of doing this, of course, would be better :-)

Moreover, if I'm not mistaken, {{cite}} templates are more complex and NOT mapped with these templates.

Which OL tool are you talking about? Do you have a link?

Aubrey - there are a LOT of mappings there. Am I correct that none of them are mappings to the {{cite}} templates?

Having been steeped (if not petrified) in MARC21 for decades, I could attempt a mapping to the {{cite}} templates. It would cover books, music, movies, possibly photographs, and maybe art works. Articles are not usually coded in MARC but a mapping could be made.

Note that there is a mapping in OpenLibrary from their books data (derived from MARC but not in MARC), and with a single click you get the filled in book citation template for the book. I use this a lot. Some of us have been wishing that OCLC WorldCat would do the same. It makes sense to have the mapping happen at the discovery point.

It would be *very* cool to build a mapping between MARC and Wikidata

Of course, every template is different, although I remember a talk in
Wikimania about standardisation...
As part of my IEG on Wikisource, I developed the draft that David linked,
but it's very basic.
I don't know how far the work has gone in developing a Commons
"wikidata" repository,
and I'm not sure if Liam's (and others) work with the GLAMWIKI toolset
is related or not.
But we can definitely have a chat all together to update each other,
and see what is the state of the art regarding book metadata, templates
and Wikidata.

figure out a quick and clean way to reference, on it.wiki
articles, books in their digital library: I'll probably use
{{cita libro}} or a wrapper for it. Metadata is in MARC, like

        <http://131.175.183.1/webclient/MetadataManager?pid=116634&descriptive_only=true>

In addition we'll also upload hundreds books on Commons, see the

The only tools I know for metadata conversion towards Commons
