Dear Federico,
If you take a look at [[:w:tt:Википедия:Русия халыклары телләрендәге Википедияләр]], you'll see that my calculations for Active Wikipedias (29) were based on the number of
Main Page visits per project per month (which is different from Combined Totals above). I obtained them from
http://stats.grok.se/ (link to respective /xx/latest30/MainPage).
But...
My main point is the difference in the drop among various wikis (some drop slightly, some by x2-3) - this is visible from Combined stats above too (in both Russia and Turkic languages related groups). Different language Wikipedias receive different degrees of attention from their linguistic communities - and Article count, Depth and Active Users can't explain it all. Thus it must be amount of public attention that they get, so the need of promotion (via Chapters, thorgs or UserGroups) is evident.
The purpose is having tools to help individual Wikimedians make their efforts more effective and exact statistic is not that important. I really loved Active Users per Million of Speakers - straight to the point!!!
This actually discloses significant potential for getting better impact per efforts if we find ways to target under-served linguistic communities and attract their attention. In case of languages indigenous to Russia alone, we have some 30 Active Wikis and about 50 in the Incubator. Wikimedia RU director Vladimir Medeyko (receives a copy) welcomed us to consider a way to publicize monthly stats for them at ru.wikimedia.org - to make sure that our community keeps the issue on the radar.
One of the ways we can show our support to smaller communities is by making chapter/thorg/user group pages multilingual, similar to the way it works on Meta in cases of [[meta:Amical Wikimedia]] or [[meta:Wikimedians of Bashkortostan User Group]].
regards,
farhad

* Wikipedias in the languages of Russia - https://tt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Википедия:Русия_халыклары_телләрендәге_Википедияләр
* Wikipedias in Turkic languages -
https://tt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Википедия:Төрки_халыклар_телләрендәге_ВикипедияләрOne clearly notable trend observed in both Russia and Turkic Wikipedias groups is seasonality in the number of visit, except for the Wikis that have some sort of organization taking care for them (growth for Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, relatively stable for Azeri, Kazakh and Finnish vs. x2-3 times decrease for all others in both groups).
This seems to imply that promotion of establishing Wikimedia User Groups for all Wikipedias in small languages by both WMF and its Regional Chapters, as well as other activities (such as training and organizational development) to support their strengthening could be very helpful. Having said that, congratulations to all new Wikimedia User Groups with their approval!

Farhad
