I'm also ok with it. (Btw: please remember to use the new mailing list, langcom@, not langcom-l@ nowadays).
At Wikimania I talked to Ganesh Paudel about Maithili Wikipedia as well, also about finding someone for the verification of the content. Now, nothing against speakers of a language at Red Hat, but if at all possible, I'd still prefer if we contact a linguist, if at all possible. So, let me contact Ganesh about the linguists known to him who could be willing to verify it; and I'll get back to you with the results.

I support it, too. (And accommodating to almost forgotten position
that I should give here inputs :) )

Hi,
The Maithili Wikipedia incubator has over a thousand articles, and
recent
activity. https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/mai/Main_Page

True, many of the articles are stubs, but my impression is that the
stubs
are meaningful.
Most of the messages in core MediaWiki are translated, too.
As for a language expert, whom we usually seek when we approve
projects: I
happen to know personally a Maithili speaker - Rajesh Ranjan from Red
Hat,
and he says that the language there is indeed Maithili. I know that
he's a
supporter of this project, but AFAIK he's not an editor himself.
Any objections to approving this?
