A discussion has been going on for several weeks, mostly at translatewiki, about which code to use for the Balochi language.

In translatewiki, we already support bgn (Western) and bcc (Southern). There are quite a lot of translations into both of them. There are also Incubator Wikipedias in both.

A new user is asking to use "bal", which is the macro language code that encompasses all varieties of Balochi.

Now, I don't have a strong opinion about it myself, and the Langcom policy about it says that they are decided on a case-by-case basis. Does anyone have an opinion?

My intuition tells me that if the varieties are only in speech and there is just one written language, then we can probably go for the macro language, but I'm really not sure if that is actually true, and I'm not sure how to verify it.

Does anyone know?
