Hello everyone,

I have shared the following draft with Ed:

"Punjabi language is spoken by 130 million speakers all over the world but the Punjabi linguistic community is divided into two as the language is written in two scripts; Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi; the former is a left-to-right script and the later is a right-to-left script. Majority of its speakers are in Punjab, Pakistan and Punjab, India. Punjabi diaspora has considerable populations in Canada, UK and USA as well.

While negligible efforts have been put in to start a Wikisource in Western Punjabi, Eastern Punjabi community first started with a few edits on Multilingual Wikisource in 2012. For the next 4 years there were only a few edits in this language. During Wikipedia 15 celebrations at Sangrur, a city in Eastern Punjab, Punjabi Wikimedians taught students to edit on Wikisource and after that since May 2016, various community members have been regularly contributing to Punjabi on Multilingual Wikisource.

Punjabi Wikisource has currently 777 pages with around 80 works. 14 of these works have a corresponding PDF and 6 of these have already been proofread and validated while work is in progress on the rest of them.

21 editors have contributed to the Punjabi category on Multilingual Wikisource with 10 or more edits. There are 40% female editors (4 female editors) out of the top 10 editors.

Although there are some websites where Punjabi ebooks can be downloaded, but currently there is no online library for public domain works or work released under Creative Commons licenses in Punjabi language. Besides this, very little number of public domains books written in Punjabi are freely available on the internet.

This project starts a new journey for the digitization and free online distribution of published works in Punjabi language."

Your inputs are welcome. I will forward them to Ed and he will help us in creating a decent blog post. I did talk to him regarding this during WMCON.
