The thing is that basically only four or five people are comfortable creating new wikis and almost all are quite busy all the time. But there are at least thirty people who are comfortable deploying mw config changes and way more people who are comfortable making config patches. This would improve the work around the bottleneck and allow the extra pieces to be done by others. Honestly, one of the reasons I don't feel creating new wikis is how to do and clean up logos because it has a specific way to run and optimize it and I don't have time to do that and many other specific pieces like timezone, namespace config, etc. Specially that basically creating new wikis with placeholder setting can be almost done automatically (the init config patch can be made automatically fully ready to be deployed).

The options here are basically having a placeholder wiki quickly and allow others to make it later OR the status quo of  the wiki not being created for possibly weeks or months until someone finds time to do all the pieces.

I have no issues with technical changes which make doing the work easier. I just wonder what "Members of langcom or other volunteers can set the logo or other pieces afterwards" means. How quickly will the settings be added, and by whom? It would be annoying to have a created wiki, but people have to start using it without the desired settings in place. I think it would be especially problematic when special namespaces are requested, like they routinely are for Wikisource? They need to exist before work can be done.

It is to make it basically automated to make the init config patch which you could in paper immediately create the wiki right after. That's the biggest difference.

Well, if *this* is the change that reduces it from an unknown and long period to a predictable time of two hours, I guess it's OK, but are time zone and logo really the problem? These two particular things are so simple that even I know how to update them :) (although I almost never *actually* do that).

Are there any other extra configurations that will be affected?

Hi,
As part of improving the workflow of creating new wikis and making sure they are created faster, I'm proposing new wikis creations done by sysadmins with default config only. No timezone, no logo, no extra configurations.

That would reduce the wiki creation burden from sysadmins so we can get it out of the door as fast as possible. Members of langcom or other volunteers can set the logo or other pieces afterwards.

With this change and one other small change, we will be basically able to create a wiki a couple of hours after the request by langcom.

Any objections?
