Jon, have you shared the admin password with at least one other person? We
shouldn't allow a single point of failure for this (or any) list.[1]

redundancy among actual list admins.

and went through all the pending requests. 99 % of the emails were spam,
but some that weren't I approved, so you may get them now. Note that most
of them are quite old, so they may not show up among your newest unread
emails, but rather in old threads from some months ago.
