Ethnologue and Glottolog appear to agree on the independent language status of the variety, and the sources cited are seemingly sharing a consensus. I'd second your inclination.

The code is valid, and the language is living, but it may be very close to Komering (kge), in which there is a Wikipedia already. Or maybe it's a similar, but sufficiently distinct language in the same subgroup or dialect continuum or something. I'm not entirely sure.
