eligibility of vmf

Is this eligible? https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_East_F… My personal opinion is No, but that's just because I hate all German dialects except my own. Jokes aside, let's consider whether there is a valid ISO code, and whether the language is "sufficiently unique that it could not coexist on a more general wiki. In most cases, this excludes regional dialects and different written forms of the same language." (per Language proposal policy). There is a valid ISO 639-3 code, vmf, but there seems to be some confusion as to what this code comprehends (see the Request on Meta). Cf. also on Incubator the category for the different dialects in which they write articles there: < https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wp/vmf/Adigl_nach_Dial%C3%A4gd > I don't think there could be a more general wiki, however the exact definition of which dialects this wiki (vmf) should cover might be controversial.

Romanized Pashto/Khowar

Two requests have come to my attention which we should reject: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Romani… https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Romani… Apparently, these languages are not written in Latin script. There is also, of course, no extra ISO code for "Romanized" versions of them. In any case, no separate wikis are justified for them.

Dear all, I am Gabriel Lee from Wikivoyage Chinese version. our (Wy/zh) community always hope to be imported because we all are very work-hard on our site. We do the edits every day, and more and more members are coming to join us. I am a few disappointed about the site isn't be imported. Don't you think that Wy/zh is a successful wiki site? Approval of Vietnamese Wikivoyage

Need input about Kven and Sami languages

Hi, all! I am the president of Wikimedia Norge now, and we have a project idea to create Wikipedias in Kven [fkv] (5000 speakers in Norway), Southern Sami [sma] (600 speakers in Norway and Sweden) and Lule Sami [smj] (2000 speakers in Norway and Sweden). Vietnamese Wikivoyage

Hi all, I propose Vietnamese Wikivoyage for approval: Very good activity [1], and the interface is also completely translated [2] (only 1 untranslated message!). 2 proposals for project closure

Hi Kat, as a Langcom member in charge of project closures, I'd like to bring forward two closure proposal's to the Board's attention, on which we recommend to close these wikis: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_A… Rationale: Only 5 pages in the mainspace, thereof maybe 3 "real" ones. This clearly fulfilles the criterion of "Absence of content since the wiki's creation", in my opinion. Additionally the request has been open since November 2012. Most commentators support a closure, with the notable exception of one Amharic user who misunderstood the proposal as "removing the possibility of Amharic Wikiquote" and argued that the project would need more time. He has however also not become active.Therefore, we propose to close (and move the content to Incubator). https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_U… This is a clear case of absence of content (< https://uz.wikibooks.org/wiki/Maxsus:AllPages>, many pages only contain one link or image or so) and total inactivity. Any comments about https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Language_committee#Request_for_enablin… (or http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/Request_for_enabling_new_varia…). To me there seem to be no problems with allowing localisation in both Latin and Chinese scripts (similar with Hakka which we had recently).

4 closure proposals

Hi all, we have 4 closure proposals for which I would like to propose decisions: # 1 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_A… The proposer says: *"This wiki only has 5 pages<https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/am:Special:Allpages>in the mainspace: * 1. *A redirect* 2. *The Main Page* 3. *A page with just a link in it (supposed to be a redirect or list?)* 4. *A quote from Martin Luther King Jr.* 5. *A list (I don't know what this means, but I'll assume it's content)"* This clearly fulfilles the criterion of "Absence of content since the wiki's creation", in my opinion. Therefore, MOVE TO INCUBATOR. # 3 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_N… This was proposed in the wake of a very long discussion about the usefulness of Wikinews here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Proposals_for_closing_projects/Archive… Some people searched for an inactive Wikinews to propose it for closure, with the argumentation that Wikinews needs to have a certain activity standard to be useful (*Even if "no activity is cited not as a reason to close a project - a dead wikinews project happens to be a different reason. As stated by many users for many times, wikinews has a unique problem among wikimedia-projects. The content in the wiki gets less valuable the more time has passed. Wikinews does not produce the kind of quality which passes the test of time). *In response, some supporters of Wikinews started translating some articles from the English Wikinews to Norwegian. Jon Harald said they were bad machine translations - maybe you can clarify? I do however not know to what extent these translations still go on today. It seems like the last recent activity was on June 10 (< https://no.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=Spesial:Siste_endringer&days=30&f…>). While this is not exactly brilliant, the project certainly has no absence of content, and from past experience of moving the even larger inactive Wikinewses in Dutch and Hungarian back to Incubator, I have seen that 1) the import process will be long and annoying 2) activity restart is of course much more likely, and better visible on the own subdomain. Therefore, I propose to KEEP. # 4 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_X… Closure was proposed for inactivity; apart for the fact that the proposer unfortunately did not reply to any further inquiries (such as whether he thought content should be moved to Incubator, etc. - he seems to have thought of a deletion initally?), we all know that "inactivity alone is no valid reason for closure". The project can also not be called of having absence of content. What is more, there is some recent activity https://xh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges (maybe also sparked by the closure proposal). So, I propose to KEEP. Best regards, MF-Warburg
