Dear fellow Wikimedians,
On Saturday, March 22, Wikimedia Portugal held its 23th General Assembly in Porto, again in a hybrid format.
During this General Assembly, new governing structures were elected, using the bylaws approved in January this year, now allowing more than 3 board members. As such, I’m very happy to announce that the previous team continues, with wonderful auditions!
Joining the board we have Alice Santiago Faria, an academic researcher and wikimedian, and one of the most important persons in the academic implementation of Wikimedia Portugal over the past years.
The second board addition is Ana Afonso, a Mirandese language and culture teacher and activist. Ana got to know Wikimedia value in the protection of minority languages in Porto Meeting 2023, and since then has working with us.
I’m also please to announce that Manuel Anastácio, a founding member of Wikimedia Portugal, joined the Fiscal Council. We value his tremendous experience, which is more important now that so many new elements are joining.
For the General Assembly Secretariat, we now have Gabriel de Jesus, an East-Timor researcher, and the developer of several tools in Tétum - a search engine, an AI Chatbot, or a Tétum mono lingual dataset. He is the author of the first Tétum phonemes on Wikidata using Lingualibre.
Before presenting the list,I must say a huge thanks to all the team that continues, and the supportive community. It’s a wonderful group of diverse people, who even in the most difficult times remained calm, and thought as a community and for the interest of the community.
